Echo the other comments really, I enjoy the series but that episode was dull.
I guess the producers were really hoping that the teams would try hitching a bit more rather than taking the easy public transport options.
That night bus/minibus looked utterly horrendous though hehe

Think hitching is illegal

They have to get sharedrides at petrol stations

Sorry, that's what I meant.

Feeling the same as others ... enjoying it but there isn't much variety in the travelling so it's down to budgets and people.

Maybe getting to the big cities will change the dynamic for a while

I wonder what made some of the teams apply? Especially ex-publican dad and daughter. She has serious issues with him, clearly, so at what point did she/they think "this would be a good idea"? Same with the now-disqualified brothers.

The non-visually impaired woman on the girls team (Cathie?) is irritating AF. I bet her work colleagues are glad she buggered off for a couple of months to do the trip.

Was talking to Mrs S last night - where would be next? Africa is probably out as it is a little TOO lawless. Australia/NZ, although maybe too easy? US too similar to Canada. Can't think of any other realistic opportunities.

What about from top of Sweden/Norway (or maybe further south if the only available routes were to predictable) down to Turkey or Portugal ? I know it would be through Europe but with the amount of different transport options and routes it would make the race side of it more interesting.

Australia\US would be similar to Canada given there will be no real language challenge and a lot of similarity in transport options. Article Circle to Istanbul would be interesting but quite short. It might be possible to plot a route down through Africa - they had some interesting events in the Central\South America series.

Helsinki to Marrakech?

Cape to Cape would probably be impractical due to security concerns, but something like Nordkapp to Marrakesh would be interesting, likely to be 10+ countries.

Anchorage to Baja (or Miama) is one hell of a distance and would be an interesting mix of scenery and characters, although not languages. Problem with the US is that there are still some pretty affordable long-distance bus routes.

They really are running out of journeys though, in terms of being safe enough to put together.

Other routes are tricky - I think I'd go back to the original concept as it was a decent one - i.e. lots of countries, languages and transport options -

i.e. London to somewhere East, but use the checkpoints to make sure they go through different countries

or reverse it - fly them somewhere wild and the challenge is 'get back to London'....

There's so much variety, geographical differences, languages etc across Europe that they could come up with numerous permutations.

Some of the supposed part-time jobs are a joke. £120 for a few hours rolling towels in a hair salon?

This has been a very disappointing series. Terrible editing and some fairly unlikely issues. Until this week's episode the contestants had little opportunity to travel via significantly different routes.

I've always thought the tasks are token jobs pre-agreed with the various places well in advance. So for instance, 3 hours will pay x amount, the actual task doesn't really matter its just the time taken thats important as that's time spent when they could be in the actual race.
Maybe they also get paid more if they go further out from the obvious route ? Having said that, the two ladies got their task pushed back a few hours (it was only giving out flyers so I'm really not sure what difference that made ??).
Surprised its taken so long for the penny to drop for one of the teams to take a night bus so they travel and have somewhere to stay at the same time, they've clearly never seen previous series.
Taxi dad - $513 for a hotel room for the night yikes think they'd had enough by that point though.

That guy who usually defaults to a taxi so much of the time is going to have no money to finish the race - or they'll have to work for so long that they'll probably be last anyway.

Yeah that was mental to pay for that considering their lack of funds.

After the first week I thought this series would be promising but it's just dull. I've actually fallen asleep watching it for the past 2 weeks.

I wouldn't mind a repeat of series 1 but with different checkpoints. For me it doesn't have to be totally different to be interesting. There would be an issue with getting through Armenia/Azerbaijan/Russia/Iran at the moment so they may have to be flown ahead skipping this part but plenty of areas in the far east to get around, perhaps adding India as a destination.

It's a little bit like Hunted in that there's a film crew in tow, where do they sleep/eat etc? How do they travel, do they have a budget? Do they have maps/suggestions etc?

With regards to the jobs, it's clear these are pre-arranged as they have the list when they are planning their travel, they're not landing in a town/city buying a paper, going to a job centre etc and looking for work.

I love Canada and it's great seeing so much more of the country than I have managed to explore so far, but it's a tad boring, no language barrier, western food/drink, but I assume this is a result of Covid and the restrictions in place at the time of fliming.

Enjoyed last night's episode a bit more as there was a bit of variation in their routes. We were amazed that three couples somehow ended up on the same bus at the end. Canada's a lovely country and it's worth watching just for the scenery.

Criss-crossing India would be brilliant.
