Production = amazing
Story and film on the whole = terrible

Did the double and it made the force awakens seem a lot better after leaving it 2 years ago thinking I've just watched a new hope again. Anyone debating to go see it, wait for the DVD.

Agree with everyone on all counts, I always see the best in films but honestly struggled to understand the gushing reviews. The jarring humour alone was seriously off putting, and I love the lighter side of the Star Wars movies.

It was good, but struggling to see how it's in any way a better film than TFA.
If you wear tinfoil hats you would assume that because Disney owns a huge amount of the franchises (now even larger with the Fox purchase) currently cleaning up at the box office, and that they have rather nice press junkets for preview screenings, that the reviewers went a bit soft on them rather than get cut off, just like the LA Times reviewers were barred from the Thor premier this year.

TFA is well put together, but the main reason its enjoyable, is because it apes SWNH's story so closely.

I think it's way too easy to overthink what's really just been 2.5 hours of great entertainment barring the odd 5 minute "slow" segment.

No, it really isn't overthinking! Both me and my wife were starting to get uncomfortable half way through, wondering when it was going to finish. That's not really a good sign of 'great entertainment' We certainly didn't feel that whilst watching TFA or even Rogue One, the time just flew. With this one, it didn't. For us, at least.

The next day for both previous movies, I re-booked to watch again the day after. I have no wish to watch this at the cinema again, I am assuming it would be even more tortuous.

Ouch. The IMDB reviews seem to echo those here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/reviews?ref_=t...

I wonder why the professional reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, then?

I haven't seen it yet. I loved 'The Force Awakens', but was rather bored by 'Rogue One' if I'm honest....

I still remember Mark Kermode's initial review the day after The Phantom Menace premiere on the R1 Simon Mayo show. I could tell he didn't like it too much, but still remained positive overall, he even remarked that the pod race scene would be remembered in the same breath as the Ben Hur chariot race in years to come.

Since then, I don't think he's been so kind to it. I think this will happen with The Last Jedi, over time.

All the reviews are really low on imdb I dont understand how it can be 8.3

My YouTube goto guy for movies is Chris stuckman and he gave it an A-

I just don't understand how. I liked the force awakens, thought rogue one was lovely to look at but boring but this was so unbelievably boring. Phasma was underused. Finn and the bird meh. Ray looks like she's turned into a power lifter. I'm pretty sure kylo had his face cut in half. Who is snoke again?

Banished crap from my memory

If you click on the vote breakdown the top 1000 users have it as a 5.1, I suspect that is closer to the real rating, and most of the 6,994 or 35% giving it a perfect 10 (honestly, even the biggest fan of this film giving it a 10?) are shills or trolls.

Saw the midnight preview, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I almost walked out on this turgid over long piece of garbage. Far too many forced comedy bits, cutesy stuff and minority box ticking. Its way too long and no amount of great visuals can mask that.

I'd agree with that. There were a lot of restless kids in seats and people leaving early.

The best bit for me was the enormous gasp of awe a young kid let out at the silent explosion. Other than that there was zero emotional response from me. Forced attempts at humour (barely a whisker away from jar jar binks) and really hackneyed references to the other films.

Emotionless. That's a good point actually, I didn't really feel anything during this but I felt like letting out a whoop several times during TFA which I'd seen several times before.
I'll watch again when I take the boy.

I was at the Premiere last night. Some thoughts:

- way more nudity than expected
- smart idea to do it all as a rap
- Charlie Sheen totally holds his own
- Adam Driver's love ballad felt awkward
- Smash Mouth's "All Star" was a bold end-credits choice
hehe

I read that tweet too

Watched it earlier today and my thoughts seem to mirror most of what has already been said.

It's not a bad movie - just pretty average.

Like others have said it sagged in the middle, and we are talking of a time period of at least an hour, and it was about 20 mins too long without a satisfying ending. My showing was full and you couldn't hear any laughs generated by the limited humour in the movie.

I watched intently, even though my attention was flagging in the middle, so a repeat viewing really wouldn't change my opinion.

I made a point of watching TFA again last night in preparation and it was better than I remembered - even though it was the third time I'd seen it, it held my attention throughout.

Although I haven't read or watched any reviews, can't understand how their taglines can be so ebullient.

Anyway, worth a watch but, at most, 6 out of 10 from me.

I watched Rogue One tonight and that really hammered home how poor TLJ is. There’s real depth of character and emotion played out of which TLJ seems to have none.

Poe's early 'hit the brakes and they fly right by' manoeuvre and being referred to as "dangerous" is pure Top Gun.

Finn's has his Independence Day moment (almost) followed by one of the most cringeworthy rescue-kiss-death (almost) moments I've seen in years.

The scene with Leia in space just made me cringe. It was a poor visual and there was no emotional impact, oddly.

The Rey training bit went on too long...

The whole mission with Rose and a Finn was a total waste of time. The whole point about the arms traders and selling arms to both sides felt like a political statement.

Why can they build droids and all manner of fantastic machines yet they don't have an autopilot on any ships?

I could probably go on but I think it's clear what I though of it.

Edit: I forgot to add the Matrix moment with Luke.

Ha jesus that was bad. I was also half expecting some of the 'seagulls' to make an appearance when Yoda appeared which really would have made me laugh...

Also how come the bomb girl was happily breathing away in space with the bomb doors open?

Was there a Daniel Craig esque cameo in it somewhere? The alien in the casino that reported the ship on the beach had a bit of a forced feel to it. But then so much was forced it's hard to tell.

I guess the bomb bay had a force field like the hanger bays on bigger ships.

I believe Princes William and Harry were Stormtroopers.
