Some weird opinion on here about the MA crash, I mean come on he could of been seriously hurt in that crash. To then put in snide comments in about his gf and how upset she was, grow up, you would be the same if you had a phone that you partner had been in a crash. As for filming it, well yeah, it's his business, that's what he does. These things happen unfortunately, just be happy he's ok and no one else was involved, it's just a car.
Indeed. Any anyway everyone's got a camera in their pocket its called a phone! What is Hannah going to be doing when she's just had a call to say her fella has been in a car smash pissing herself laughing? Half of these comment trolls simply dopnt have a partner that would care about them to react in this way that's probably why they don't get it. I'm not sure I would have posted some of the footage but then Youtubes not my job and I'm not in the public eye in that way. As it is Matts job then why would you not create some content from it? If he hadn't the trolls would be having a go at him for hiding it. You can't win but I guess in the public eye you do basically have a responsibility to be honest to your followers. Personally I thought it was well done it addresses the Instagram thing. It is what it is luckily not hurt. My first thought was thank god it didnt catch fire or the news could have been different.

I still find odd that having just taken a phone call to say that he has crashed a car do you A) get to the scene as quickly as possible or B) worry about getting the best content.

Just seem bizarre to me that you would waste time filming it but then I am not a Youtuber.

Not that it would've made a huge difference to the incident but interesting he's got it on Nankang AR1 semi slicks on the rear and Michelin PS4S on the front. AR1s are pretty good in the wet - just not when they're cold.
I’ve heard it all now! No semi-slick tyres are “pretty good in the wet”.

Doesn't say anything about cameras! He was using his POV camera as well in the video, if he shot video holding the same POV camera, that isn't illegal.

The car looks great imo!
He was clearly on his phone! I think he's edited the video as I can't see the clip anymore unless I'm being dumb
Where in the video was it?

They actually are when up to temp as I pointed out - obviously assuming there's no standing water.

AR1s specifically, are good because they are soft, R888Rs are a bit better again. N1 Cup2s are atrocious by contrast.

This is all personal actual experience on road and track. Maybe try it.

Any puddles changes the calculus obviously and just in case you have trouble reading again, they have to be up to temp.

Is MA’s mrs not on the phone when driving? Why would you be filming that? Oh the drama!

But putting that to one side. Good look Mat, you’ll have it back to how it was in no time. The main thing is that no one was injured. Keep it up!

She was in the passenger seat was she not?
Nope on her own in the car, As was his mate in his van. Both on phones while driving.

He was always going to rebuild it lets be honest.

I am fairly sure at some point in time most of us have been given some bad news and our first thoughts have been work related.

It just so happens that in Mat's case the bad news is also work!

Interesting update from Chris Slix last night on the Mercedes AMG GT project, he was speaking to the last owner about how the crash happened etc, the last owner mentioned that the cars first owner was Roger Taylor from Queen.

It crashed through a wall which explains the damage.
This was uncomfortable to watch. Having the previous owner get in touch with you and tell you what happened is one thing, but digging through the car to find any bit of information you can to then phone a few people to try and get hold of the owner (as well as lying about finding something of value) is another IMO.

You're joking.... right? People don't risk their lives and destroy prized cars purely for clicks. Especially when they're already making a packet and don't really need to pull any kinds of stunts.

I've tried to get into the Youtube game. As one man and a camera it's pretty difficult to create interesting stuff in an oversaturated market. I respect anybody who puts in the hours to make good content, it isn't easy at all, and it really is a case of be grateful for all the good car content we are currently getting across the YT platform. They might not do it forever...

I found it odd to start with, but when MA got out the car and found he was fine, his second thought was probably to make content out of it and I imagine when calling his mate and his gf, he asked them to film themselves for the content. If he'd done the crash for content, I'd imagine it would have been on film.

Idiots. Driving on their phones, on the way to a crash.

Nope, you are simply talking BS. They are not good in the wet regardless of their temps.

I'm more annoyed by people filming concerts. We believe you were at Lady Gaga. I don't need shaky poor quality phone footage to prove it.
Couldn't agree more. When you see any video clips on the news or whatever of big concerts, all you can see is an ocean of mobile phones. An absolute waste of a ticket that could have gone to someone who would have actually watched the show instead of staring at it through their phone screen. Hateful sign of times.

You know those tests aren't done with the tyres up to temp right? They're done from a cold start. Secondly, in those tests the track is usually sopping wet with puddles. Doh!

Also Cup2Rs are even softer and more aggressive than AR1s - and they seemed to do pretty well by your own graphs - because they are so soft they get up to temp very rapidly.

I've driven AR1s at Spa and the Nurburgring amongst others in the wet (no puddles) in a car with no ABS/TC/DSC - once warmed up they were very good - but what do I know hey.

This has gone down a mad rabbithole, which I suspect Matt is quite pleased about given that it's his job to drum up interest through controversy. For the record I've used AR1s on the road and it takes a lot of effort to warm them up on a cold, wet day. I personally don't think they are safe tyres to be using year round in the UK.

By that point you know he's OK so might as well get into work mode and monetise it.

Yup absolutely and were they up to temp in MA's crash? Absolutely not - I was just making the point that they don't make you automatically crash at the merest hint of damp tarmac - if it's not sopping wet and they've got temp they are surprisingly good. It's not exclusively to do with tread design if there is no standing water, compound is also relevant, hence the ultra semi slick Cup2Rs in the graphs above give a good showing.

Semi Slicks will be harder to get up to temp then regular road rubber, mostly due to the fact that the semi slick design doesn't provide for tread blocks to move around causing heat but once up to temp can be very good.
