Agreed 100%.
TLJ wasn't a Star Wars film. Its miles behind Rouge One and Solo.
The crying shame is that, because of the failure of TLJ, many people didn't give Solo a chance and didn't go to see it which makes it a flop in Disney's eyes. TLJ wasn't a Star Wars film. Its miles behind Rouge One and Solo.
The SW side stories like Rogue One and Solo are now on hold, which is a massive shame. Not only were they better than the new Main Story offerings, it means there won't be an Obi Wan Kenobi film any time soon, which is a monumental travesty.

Nailed it.Went beyond the surface details that annoyed so many to show how the whole basic structure failed.

Not happy with the reviews that said it was crap
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/oct/04/after...
They've decided to blame it on russiantrollbots and claim it was an OK film really.
What utter bks.
It's still st.

Why are they still desperately trying to salvage this? That article reads like it was written by Disney's PR department so shocking is the blatant bias.https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/oct/04/after...

Disney seriously just accept you made a st, incoherent film more interested in making a political statement rather than a fun film about people fighting with laser swords in space which is what most people actually wanted to see and move on.
Yes I can see Putin right now scheming on how to take down western civilisation by down voting star wars. It's almost as if some random academic wanted some publicity or something??
On a lighter note I watched Solo at the weekend (for free I hasten to add). And you know what? It's not actually that bad. In fact I'd even go as far as to say that I might have enjoyed it a little.
My kids did as well, although they got sick of me sniggering at the easter eggs. I got half way through explaining why I chuckled at Solo saying 'I've got a good feeling about this' when I realised from their blank expressions that I was taking this all far too seriously

Can't disagree with this. I enjoyed Force Awakens, I thought both main characters were well developed, but in TLJ they are just plain stupid, making decisions based on nothing except that Disney is trying to sell you something. I really didn't like TFA but perversely, this meant I didn't dislike TLJ as much as all the people who actually liked TFA.I was actually expecting TLJ to be a lot *worse* based on TFA and at least it looked stunning.
Still a crap film overall though. They really destroyed the character of Luke and that whole 'chase in space' plotline just didn't make any sense whatsoever. Now I guess the entire military force of the rebellion is down to about 30-40 people and the Millenium Falcon?

Reading that article makes me wish there was an option to pay some money to close down that hack rag rather than the begging letter they post after every article. It's just as much an echo chamber for its idiot readers as the daily wail. fk the grauniad.https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/oct/04/after...

I saw this at the cinema and left quite unhappy. That was my own opinion, uninfluenced by others. What I didn’t like is clearly shared by many others.
I’m happy to suspend disbelief as long as the story follows its own rules and makes sense.
I don’t see the point of bringing back the previous films major characters to kill them off. Having Han get skewered after a chat with his son was a wasted opportunity. He should have gone out in a blaze of glory. Blowing up the Falcon with him at the controls would have been a noble end for a great character. I suspect watching the Falcon explode would have been emotional for many as well.
To then bring back Luke and to subvert his character so totally then to have him die in that fashion again begs the question, why bring the character back at all?
There is no baton passing. I didn’t really care for the Force Awakens which was a remade Star Wars itself. At least they set up some interesting questions which TLJ denied answers to.
Quite why they would allow someone to write and direct a sequel when that individual didn’t see the first film astounds me- can that even be true?

I've already lost most of my interest in the Star Wars franchise, if the rumours are true and they do keep KK on, that will be the final nail in the coffin for me. Keep an executive producer on who is more interested in using the franchise as her personal political mouthpiece rather than actually telling an interesting or coherent story? No thanks.
