Radio 2 was tolerable (almost enjoyable) whilst Zoe Ball was presenting.
This morning's presenter was dire.
The first song he played this morning was Cliff Richard...This morning's presenter was dire.
To be 30 a thirty something, you will have been in your late teens and early twentys in the 1990s and early noughties. I don't want to listen to music from that period, as I have plenty of that on my iPod to play as and when I want, however I do want to listen to a radio station that appreciates that I am a child of the Blur / Prodigy / Oasis / Pearl Jam / Nirvana etc etc etc etc generation, and therefore would like to enjoy the massive variety of talent available in the world of modern music that would appeal to that kind of listener.
Cliff Richard (as mentioned above), Enya (as I mentioned in a previous post), and the Beach Boys (from the link to the Radio 2 play list) are NOT acceptable for my age group, now that Radio 1 has deliberately abandoned us.
As mentioned in another post ... Leave 1-Extra for the "wikkid" street beats (how cool am I ) for the yoofs to crackle through their phone's speakers without consideration for other people.
I tried 6 music in the mornings for a week, but they don't seem to play that much music They bang on about the great music coming up, play trails about how it's all about the music but I think I only heard 2 songs between 7 and 730 this morning. I did like those songs (think one was by James but can't find a list of the songs played) but there just aren't many of them.
Zoe ball always was and proved she is still great.
I recall with sadness when her mate the shouty one took over the breakfast show yes Coxy what drivel tosh
Then I discovered Chris Moyles but after many many many years I found Chris Evans again.
Any news on Chris Moyles activities since the show ended?

Well, I tried Grimshaw this morning.
The good news is there was no sign of One Direction and there was some (half) decent music. The bad news is he has an incredibly annoying voice and seems intent on making sure nobody else gets a look in, for example he said hello to Tina as the news came on, and when she got to the end of the news she was saying something like 'thanks and goodbye' and he cut right across the top of her and cut her off!

I tried Heart (which is ok on a Fri pm as they play club classics) but couldn't deal with the DJ's. Went to Radio Bristol - far too serious for that time of the morning. Went to Radio 2, the banter was ok but music was really old (and I have a wide taste in music going acroos the decades!!) traffic news for the whole country, which I don't need as I get local traffic reports cut in (as I'm sure most would do these days?) so really disheartened at the mo.
I'm persevering with Grimshaw as I am lazy but it isn't getting any better. It is bearable then he uses phrases such as "mega-mega fan-girl" which make me wince.
The main problem is it's just him. Breakfast shows of old have always had a least a side-kick. The producers who you occassionally hear in the background (Matt Finchum?) just sound bored and are boring.
Most of the interviews have been cringeworthy too.

^ Exactly! If they are aiming to target the younger audience with Radio 1, how can Radio 2 be considered to be aiming for the 30 and 40 somethings playing sh!t like that.

If Radio 2 was to aim itself squarely at 30-40's as you suggest it would be failing in its remit, which is to appeal to anyone too old for Radio 1.To be 30 a thirty something, you will have been in your late teens and early twentys in the 1990s and early noughties. I've pretty much kept myself to Absolute 90s since Moyles' departure. I'm warming to Christian O'Connell too, the makeup of his show definitely has TCMS influences, and I find myself subconsciously ignoring the adverts and concentrating on the chatter.
It's no TCMS, at all - but as a replacement, it's doing me ok so far. I can also take solace in the fact that I haven't heard any Justine Bleeder or Wrong Direction for ages now!!
Rather chuffed at that, me!

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling to find something new to listen to! I know that after 7 or 8 years its going to be difficult but I've tried all the above so far and anything commercial has too many of the same adverts every 10 mins and nothing BBC give me fits.
And to make things worse I'm due to start a new job soon with a 45 min commute to fill (and I like the mixture of music and talk so iPod is out of the running).

I agree completely re: the sense of feeling lost, which is crazy as it's just a f*cking radio show, it shouldn't be important and it really isn't in the grand scheme of things...but and it's a big but, I feel depressed on my drive to work now. My job can be busy and stressful (as can my tedious journey to work), Chris helped me laugh before my morning start, improved my mood no end as I approached work, I just haven't found a replacement for that and I don't think I ever will now
That's exactly how I feel. I kind of needed a little lift just before the working day started. I am driving to work in silence at the moment as I can't settle on anything else. Even my own music selection isn't right for the mornings. I need banter.Legend83 said:
To be fair, the call or delete with Lily Allen was quite funny this morning.
Was it? Seriously?I turned it off as I found it mind numbingly boring listening to Lily Allen phone random people I have no interest in to talk a load of bks.
This new show really is poor. Seems to be a competition of how many name drops they can get in. Justin Bieber seems to get a mention every day...
Also, Moyles got fired for not aiming his show at a younger audience and having references to stuff 20-30 year olds would only know about... so whats Grim doing using the Thunderbirds theme tune to announce the webcam? fk me I'm 27 and thats even before my time!
