Is there a market for a full on restoration programme?
Take a classic such as the E Type and carry out a full bare metal ground up restoration over the entire series.
Start off with how they source the car (15 minutes max) for the first show, rest of first show comparing that model to its competitors of the time and a bit of history on its development
Rest of the series shows a detailed restoration, full engine out and strip down, same with gearbox, suspension etc
A Car is Reborn maybe?Take a classic such as the E Type and carry out a full bare metal ground up restoration over the entire series.

Am I about to get the wooshing parrot?
A Car is Reborn is OK.
When I originally watched it, I thought it was iritating and patronising but CCR brings new meanings to these words.
You can forgive Top Gear for much in the name of entertainment but you would need the mental age of a 7 year old to find CCR entertaining.
To the person who said "burn it with fire" - I agree, and add any cars this program has had anything to do with to the fire.
I would love to know how many enter the phone in to win the car. The sad thing is - it will be thousands!

I can’t believe how bad that programme was. As has been said the "A car is born" series was actually good to watch and went into a great deal of detail. Their cars were not concourse but they gave you a good idea of what could be achieved at home:
The full series can be seen on Youtube, here’s a quick taster of their E Type build:

I was just awful TV, painful to watch. And as for the car, why start with a LHD auto? why put the ugly US spec bumper on the front? why would anyone fit a glass sunroof to an E Type? They haven't got a clue. If anyone fancies restoring a Series 2 E Type this (red!) manual RHD one is estimated at £10,500 - £12,500 at Brightwells tomorrow; it would make a much better starting point. http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...

I can't believe that I missed this programme... I really can't wait to see it now just to see if it's as bad as has been made out!
Apparently the repeat of the E-Type episode is on Channel 5, Thursday 27 Sept at 7pm (info given in case there are any other peasants like me who don't have Sky +).

Apart from this programee being utter toss....is it just me that doesn't "get" the E Type jag at all? I think it's bloody ugly to be honest. I'll get my coat.
I don't get it either.Always thought their was an element of Emperors new clothes about the whole E type thing really.dave_s13 said:

Everyone has a right to their opinion and you won't be the first to hold this one. The car can certainly be criticised for a number of engineering design compromises but I love the shape and some of the detail design of the 3.8 Coupe. I was offered an immaculate 3.8 for £25K many years ago which I should have snapped up.

I'm going to watch it next week just so i can laugh at how bad it is.
I think we all will,I guess it is so bad it's good in a bad sort of way. BTW, does anyone actually remove paint with an angle grinder?
