Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan: 1982, yeah that's a very good film, but one would need to like sci-fi to watch it.

I was searching ph for something rlse when I saw a thread, my top ten films if anyone cares, it was from 2006. I scanned it, it had some older films in, stuff that doesn't get repeated now. It's a shame, I listed LA COnfidential earlier, but forgot all about Chinatown, which it owes a lot to. I also like the 70's version of Farewell my LOvely, though it's not Chinatown.

5. The Truman Show - dunno what it is about this one but I watched it regularly for a long time.
It's an excellent film, barely gets a mention when discussing the best films, but it's definitely up there.

Ah ha - the only person apart from OH who has seen A Girl Walks Home Alone . My friends couldn't understand my enthusiasm for a US /Iranian pulp vampire movie with a skateboarding heroine .... Great soundtrack too.
Maybe there's an argument for it being style over substance. Kinda like Drive which is another favourite but I'm a sucker for good cinematography and soundtrack to the point that story could suck I'll still like it *cough Tron Legacy cough* getmecoat

man, those old Powell and Pressburger films were magic, though I'd only advocate AMoL&D universally, and if you like that, move onto The Life and Times of Colonel Blimp

very good

Me too. An honourable mention please for Hear My Song about the Irish lad trying to run a musical hall in Liverpool. A big section of the film is him back in Ireland trying to find an act he's promised everyone. In one scene he's with James Nesbit as a down-at-heel theatrical agent with a Morris Traveller.

"Jesus, you're a terrible driver."
"You should see me when I'm on me own."
"I'd like to be with you when you're on your own."

The lead character is played by Adrian Dunbar who doesn't spring to mind as a comedy actor but he was funny in that. Wow, just looked him up; he co-wrote it. Better still.

It's one of my all time favourites.
