Joining this thread late but when you pass a construction site and see 2 portakabins stacked on top of each other....
And KM was even more patronising than usual.

There's been more than one water tower I think. I think the guy you are talking about (who was a little bit mad) may not have been a Grand Design.

Yes, there have been a couple of water towers, there was a couple who had one down the bottom of their garden and they eventually made it their house.

Yes, the fellow did seem, uh, eccentric. Perhaps it wasn't a grand design then, I just remember him working all hours under the sun in the middle of nowhere (large forest?) with his young son etc.. and I thought the result was superb. Oh, and his idea of health and safety was a piece of string to hold a large steel lintle in place etc...
