13 Strong

Chris Hemsworth, supposed to be based on a true story.

Started well, got a bit Hollywood gung ho silly at the end.

Well filmed though and some good explosions.

Just noticed that Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's Long War Round is on Amazon Prime.
Even if you are not into bikes this is a great watch. Two guys riding round the world (with backup).
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Barnaul-to-Western-mongol...
Watched that when it first came out. Was a really good series.
Yeah I’ve watched them a few times since they came out, there’s the long way down also in case anyone hasn’t seen it.

Shame they never did the long way up from south to North America they hinted at.
A brilliant character study of non-reciprocal jealous bromance.

Charlie’s response to the arrival of Mrs Ewan was absolutely hilarious.

Series 1 to 4 of Chicago PD (& 5/6 if you pay).

I caught an episode of S6 on 5 USA, so I've started from S1E1 on Amazon

It's not another Justified, but it's one of the better cop shows, I think, although the crossovers with the other "Chicago" programmes and Law & Order SVU (which are not on Prime) are a bit of a pain.

Rocketmen

This is listed as a film, but it's actually all the episodes of a short web TV series, with a total running time of just over an hour.

It's about the members of the 'Department of Municipal Rocketry' - "men with rocket packs on rooftops in every city, alert and waiting to save their neighbourhood from menaces guaranteed in the coming century". Or that was the idea when it was formed in the 1940's, but they have actually been forgotten about and only continue to be funded due to bureaucracy and nobody really knows they still exist. And they've never had a budget increase or new kit.

The SFX and dialogue are deliberately shonky, but it has a certain charm about it and is quite sweet and amusing. It doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you. smile

The Boys - Karl Urban as a British, foul-mouthed ex-spy, trying to unmask the dark side of superheroes, very dark and funny!

He veers off into Australian sometimes... took us a while to decide he was aiming for Danny Dyer smile

Only watched first ep so far, very good start!

I did think he was playing an Oz to start with as well - Think Dominic Cooper might have been a better choice to play Butcher

Got it. Homelander is Sheriff Lucas Hood from Banshee, still the most PH series ever.

I've finished The Boys now. I really enjoyed it and would recommend. Suitably off the wall and I found Shue's performance particularly good!

Also watching Urban made me revisit Dredd (again), so win win really!

The Boys was excellent. i really enjoyed that.

Got legs for more, they even hint at it during an episode "sequel after sequel after sequel..." Brilliant.

Although, the airplane scene was pretty poorly thought out.

when homelander opens the door from the ourside without a single spot of damage and no oxygen masks drop on depressurisation.

also thanks to whoever pointed out that homelander was the cop in Banshee. Was doing my nut in.

The Boys is the best thing I've seen for a long time, so refreshing to see something different.

Season 2 started filming this summer - https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a28550599/the-b...

Hadn't seen it before so not sure if recent or not, but Bob's Burgers is on prime, S1-9.
Love this show, very funny but in a very nice way too.

We've just enjoyed the first two episodes of The Boys, suitably dark and entertaining.
However I do have a question that hopefully someone can clear up..

Has Starlight applied for (and got) a job as one of The Seven, rather than working her way up through the ranks? What about all the other superheroes that have been working, don't they get promoted? Seems a bit odd that someone with zero actual experience and without even meeting the other Seven can get a job on 'the board'. Or have I missed something?

The Lamplighter has retired, so a replacement Seven member is recruited through an audition/interview process. Starlight is the successful candidate.

Thanks, that's what it appears like, but isn't that a bit odd?

Don't other superheroes employed by the company get promoted? How did she get chosen if she's not got any real experience and not even met the other seven? - That's my real question. I see there's a thread on The Boys, so maybe I'll put this in there.
