I've got into quite a nice routine now, R5 with Nicky Campbell on the way into work and Greg James on the way home works for me

On the subject of dimshaw we have a radio in our kitchen that is on 24/7 tuned to R1 so I normally catch a bit of the show whilst ironing a shirt, making lunch etc

He must have mentioned One Direction every single fking day is he on commission or something? To be honest I wasn't expecting much from him but nothing this woeful

Would love to know the listening figures

I haven't felt the slightest inclination to listen to Grimshaw to date. I've just seen a TV trailer for his show, and on the back of that I'd say that I now have an active intent to ensure that I never tune in to his show under any circumstances.

Sure, I'm an old fart, but that 30 seconds of trailer was just dire claptrap.

I've got into the routine of switching to Radio2 when I get in the car in the morning and then back to Radio1 in the evening.

I guess the biggest kick in the face for Radio1 would be if the Breakfast Show starts getting lower listening figures than the other daytime shows.

Firmly in CD territory now, which makes the morning commute a bit less good frown

Any official listening figures for him yet?

How do they calculate the listening figures?

I've settled on a mix of Christian O'Connell on Absolute at home (digital) and a mix of R2 and R4 in the car! Had enough of the annoying voice and WandErection obsession!

Always wondered this? Surely just picking random members off the high street is not a good demographic, I rarely get into town these days . Surely other people are the same.

They pick people and give them a listening diary, you have to tick off what stations your listening to and for how long thruout the day, over a week.

I actually found something that made me smile this morning, Absolute Radio 80's on DAB, made me laugh in the car for the first time since Chris & the Gang left us.

Absolute Radio listener now - good variety of my kind of music, decent DJ's, and I am a Matt Berry fan so like the voice-overs.

Job jobbed!

For several years, MrsC's job was to produce the TV viewing figures on a daily basis.

They have a "panel" of homes, which is carefully selected to represent different demographics, and in addition weighted appropriately for geography/population density etc. In each home, there is a box with a separate button for each family member (including the dog, if appropriate and if you leave the TV on for the dog when you're out! Yes, really!). If you're in the room watching TV, you press your own button to register that.

The system listens to what is being broadcast. This also includes films (DVD etc) which you might be playing; the system is programmed with the soundtrack of all films on general release, and can thus tell what you're watching even if it's a disc rather than a broadcast. Overnight each night, all homes on the panel are polled remotely, the data collected, weighted, and results produced. This is prepared and then manually checked by 0830 every day (inc weekends) and has to be submitted to BARB by, I think, 0915 so that it can be released to the broadcast industry.

I assume radio is done the same way but I'd need to ask her and she's not here at the moment.

Another convert to Absolute radio, listen to it all the time in the patrol car, all I've got to do do now is get a DAB radio for my own car.

Unfortunately, due to where I live, the choice is limited to Radio 1, Radio 2 and Signal one.

Radio 1 is the obvious choice as if you think Grimshaw is bad, you obviously don't know the horrors that are Signal one in the morning. Funnily enough Chris Moyles worked there at one point in his career.

I have had Grimmy on but he hasn't grown on me. If anything I dislike him more now I have listened to the show. Constant name drops. One direction this, Justin Bieber that...

The contract is commissioned by BARB, the Broadcasters' Audience Reseacrh Board and run by whoever is the incumbent at the time, currently TNS who are nearing the end of their current 6 year contract. MrsC worked for the previous contract holders, who lost it in 2007.

The broadcasters, BBC, ITV, et al, subscribe to the figures via BARB (I think!).

RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) measure radio listening figures. Broadly speaking they are said to be more accurate than TV figures due to their methods and the differences in which the two mediums are consumed

I gave him until last Friday, he is crap, that's all. His only saving grace at the minute is he has a lot of guests, but that will dry up soon, and he will be worse still!!

At the minute I am flicking between heart and radio 2 until 1pm when Scott mills starts. The music is hit and miss on them for me as I'm 26 l, but it still beats nick flamin grimshaw

Same here, BBC make a big thing about 50% more music, shame that 50% is no direction and other similar garbage. found myself listening to far more Radio 2, Heart and when I'm really desperate Kiss.

Still think Greg James would have been more suited to the slot.

Had it on again this morning. I finally laughed at Prof Green winding his girlfiend up on dial or delete. And it was actually light relief to hear Zane on the show!!

I don't want to listen but my radio is old and unreliable so radio one is the easiest station for me to have on frownfrown
