Another Sky Price Increase

You've cancelled though, presumably you don't want the service anymore?
... From the sounds of it Sky are doing ok subscriptions wise, and I would've thought retentions would depend entirely on what other players are in town. If Sky is realistically your only option where you live they'll be aware of that.
if he's cancelled (like me) it doesn't mean he doesn't want the service. Just means he wasn't happy with the offer so had no choice. They should call him within the 31 day period, if not he can always change his mind. ... I'm expecting a call as well, been with a Sky for 15 years. Sometimes you have to go through this to get the best offers. I've done it Virgin Media. Got an offer within a week of cancelling.

Spot on Superbad. I've been with Sky for 11 years and it's just too expensive for live football, Blue Bloods and Fortitude, which is all we watch. It seems you have to jump through this hoop to get the best deal. But if they don't call back, well there's always BT, radio and Match of the Day........I'm expecting a call as well, been with a Sky for 15 years. It's an odd business model that penalises customer loyalty, although no different from insurance companies and energy providers I suppose.
Mike.
So, the plan worked. Sky called me today and have given me 35% off my package for 10 months without the need to sign up for a new contract. Also give me a credit for £50 applied to my account.
To save even more I've cancelled Sky Sports at the end of the season but will still get F1. May get Sky Sports again come the new season.
Yes, could have saved more but I'm happy.

I phoned on Monday past to cancel our Multiroom, Sports and Movies packages.
Should bring potential bill in July down from £87 to £41.50 which is much more palatable.
Multiroom removal instigated by the old Sky+ box we have in that room starting to make horrible fan noise, also hard drive fails to park properly and it stopped recording months ago.
To be honest, we are looking to remove the TV from that room and put a wee fireplace in instead and run it as a quiet/reading/chilling room.
Sports and Movies will be replaced by the new Minix Android box i have just bought.
You could replace the failing Sky+ with a Freesat PVR.Should bring potential bill in July down from £87 to £41.50 which is much more palatable.

You might find that the majority of stuff that you actually watch (unless you are a huge sports fan) is on channels which are actually free.
Sky are taking the mickey with their constant price increases, though after the circus of the Premier League TV rights auction, increases were inevitable to make the customer pay for the outrageous sums bid by the broadcasters. What annoys me is that they increase prices on all their packages - not just Sky Sports - to subsidise the sports channel.

The ONLY reason I stay with Sky is their easy to use record system. If someone could crack that so you don't have to pay for it, I would be off as to be honest I am fed up with all the repetitive crap.
Try a youview freeview box off ebay for £60. The youview guide and recording/catchup is a very very close 2nd to sky's OS. The best freeview I've used. Made by Humax too who are the daddies in the settop box area.Well in the spirit of the thread I thought I'd chance my arm and see what happened.
I used the appraoch of the price increases were a bit steep and was thinking of leaving, was there anything they could do.
I got a reduction of £15 per month from the Sports package reducing me from £64 to £49. This was on a non-contract deal too.
I also switched my Phone and BB over and got 12 months free Broadband (I only have the BT line so only a saving of £7 per month).
Still, £20 odd a month saving is better than nothing.

To be honest I was trolling a bit at the time. I too have in the past called Sky to "cancel" a contract for the purposes of getting a discount, and one time - after having been with them a similar period of time to you - my Sky+ HD box packed in. Sky wanted me to front an engineer call out charge, so I just told them to cancel the whole thing since patently it was a useless service to me without a functioning box. Miraculously "on this occasion" the charge was waived.I'm expecting a call as well, been with a Sky for 15 years. Sometimes you have to go through this to get the best offers. It's a shame that it takes mock threats to cancel to get concessions that ought to be given to loyal customers anyway, but thems the breaks I guess.
Oh, and good job on the discount you managed to get

I have one as well Big trouble is that I am right on the edge of reception of terrestrial TV and only get the main ones. I had an engineer come out to sort out the roof aerial and he basically shook his head
Thats pretty much my problem. The roof arial is next to useless as the reception is so poor and there is no cable in this area. The alternative for me would have been Freeview through Sky.briangriffin said:
does anyone have any experience of freesat from sky? I'd be happy with that as long as I could just pay a single subscription for the sports channels. anyone know if that's possible?
anything else worth watching tv series wise (i.e. game of thrones I can just download)
Freesat from sky is just the FTA services. You cant bolt sky sports on to it. You can only get sky sports as a bolt on to one of their other channel packages.anything else worth watching tv series wise (i.e. game of thrones I can just download)

But can you record with Sky freesat?
You have to pay an additional £10 a month (or similar) to get that functionality. At that point its pretty much the same cost as their basic package (funnily enough) which comes with the record functionality anyway.Just called to cancel as I said I wanted to consolidate TV, phone and broadband as they are with 3 different suppliers at the moment (Sky, BT & TalkTalk).
Managed to get the same TV package along with phone line and fibre broadband for less than I’m paying for TV at the moment. Have to say that the chap was very helpful and extremely courteous (even though he was a Geordie and used the word ‘Mint!’ far too much )
I could probably have saved a little bit more by moving to BT but I would have lost a lot of stuff (F1, Multiroom, Sky Go, Sky News on the phone/iPad etc), so overall I think I'll be saving just shy of £400 over the next 12 months
Edit - just done the calcs again and it's actually a saving of over £500

Just in case anybody is interested, I just went to cancel my NowTV monthly entertainment pass (normally £6.99 a month) as I just bought a 3 month one for £13.50 on ebay and they are offering 4 months for £3.49 a month.
Interesting.
