The original Mad Max. Brilliantly trashy, with the complete lack of budget (such as the blatantly obvious fake front on the truck that hits the bike) only adding to its appeal. Although I did get nearly halfway through before realising the blu ray has the original Australian audio as opposed to the American dub.
One of my top five films of all time.

I remember eagerly promoting it to my son in his late-teens - he agreed to watch it and I grabbed a rip, not realising it was the American dub. The enstification caused by that simple change from one English to another English was so marked as to be disastrous.

It's a very definite Aussie-lingo only film!
I thought Mad Max 2 was discernibly the best of all the originals. It had a much wider scope and far less sentimentality. Max was, by that time, severely hardened and cynical of absolutely everything. 'Road Warrior' was right!
My favourite part is the shots of him driving after going into full on revenge mode, it shows his transformation into what would be the Road Warrior perfectly. Mad Max 2 is my favourite of the originals as well, although I've always seen them as four different tales of a character instead of actual sequels. I love Fury Road as well, it's a brilliant bit of film making but does loose that grittiness and realism that could only come from shooting everything practically (such as people carefully climbing onto vehicles instead of leaping onto them). Unfortunately, Beyond Thunderdome is a very distant fourth place. Starts off ok but nosedives once he meets the children.

Fury Road used a LOT of practical effects.

But, yes, I wasn't a fan of it - it was far too OTT.

Just watched Train to Busan, the Korean zombie film, it's been mentioned many times already.

Brilliant film. Up there as one of my favourites just from seeing it once smile .

Hell or High Water

lovely little film, great restrained performances, and has a nice line on unfinished business at the end.

Speaking of which:

Mission Impossible: Fallout

A rare franchise for a number of reasons...

1) They've been getting better and better, this for me was up there with Rogue Nation

2) Huge movie star clearly doing many, many real stunts and as much practical work as is humanly possible

CGI is incredible these days and much of it is unnoticed, but deep down you know during certain almost unbelievable action sequences that it's all nonsense. It's amazing how real the MI series feels as a result of just knowing that Tom Cruise was hooning around Paris on a motorbike or actually leaping between buildings.

Went to see Fallout tonight, brilliant film with some truly excellent sequences, arguably the best for pure action.

I found it funny that isla and Julia look like twins though, not that it's a problem cloud9

I suspect this will be an unpopular opinion. I watched Justice League the other night, fully expecting to hate it based on various reviews and opinions of friends etc.

I quite enjoyed it and would probably give it a respectable 6.5/10

Sorry

There is an animated prequel called Seoul Station, I'm pretty sure Film4 are showing that too at some point.

After watching Train to Busan on Film4 that I recorded, I've found it on Amazon Prime, and Seoul Station is on there too!

Thanks for the heads up on Seoul Station, something to watch at the weekend smile

Just watched the brilliant 'The Disaster Artist'.

Biop of this (possibly) Polish loon who manages to make the worst film ever with his own funds.

Great cast, James Franco is good with some nice support work from some well known faces.

Really enjoyed it.

We shall be watching 'The Room' in the near future!

Shin Godzilla - made purely for a Japanese audience and is 90% politicians and scientists sitting around talking. Sounds insanely dull but was actually really good, moving at a fast pace and focusing on the squabbles and confusion that would actually take place should a giant monster show up and start destroying the city. Godzilla himself looks a bit comical in his initial form, but grows to be suitable menacing by the end. I still prefer the recent American version, but this was a good companion to it.

A few from me:
Incredibles 2 - a hoot. Not really any better than the first one, but also not really any worse. The baby was funny as hell. 78/97
Deadpool 2 - Underwhelming - almost too talky. Re-used jokes from the last one. Not as sharp or as funny as I had hoped. 53/96
Justice League - Poor. Effects fest - not really any character development. I wanted to like it but it was just weak.40/92
Miss Sloan - Jessica Chastain is at risk of typecasting herself into the "hard ass go-getter" but she's still good to watch. Took quite a lot of concentration comared to 'Molly's Game' or ZeroDarkThirty but well worth it - interesting film. 72/99

Also watched Three Billboards again yesterday - still very, very strong. The script and story is so good it could be a radio program.

The Meg - fun filled shark action movie which seems to know how cheesy it is. It does have an eye on the Chinese market with this film but who cares? Some very obvious problems not addressed before they happen eg. indestructable shark 'cage', cool - first thing I thought was but the wire isn't

Very much in a similar vein to "Skyscraper" - ie big, dumb fun

True but come on, all the clues were so obscure that their apparent solution was total b********
