The Grand Tour

And I daresay more people on PH watch TG or TGT than the general public. Who actually will stop watching it if it doesn't entertain them. Those viewers wont even give it a second chance unlike the posters here
I think you're totally wrong there. Many, many more members of the public watch both programs than there are PH members. I can picture CHM laughing their cocks off at some of the comments here, knowing full well that the PH opinion is but a fart in a thunderstorm compared to the bigger picture.Rich_W said:
OK then.
Who is the target audience for TGT?
Are there many of them?
And lastly, are they actually enjoying the show in the same way they enjoyed old CHM TG?
I'm beginning to think it's people that watch crap sit coms on BBC or ITV are the target audience. The idea that a show can be well scripted, intelligent and funny seems alien to the target audience
If you do a show where petrolheads are the target audience, the viewing figures will be low and it will not be the phenomenon that TG was and TGT is (currently).Who is the target audience for TGT?

Take Chris Harris's You Tube channel, average viewers he gets is 500k, 375k subscriber i.e.a non event. Top gear had 350,000,000 viewers worldwide.
Mr PetrolHead himself may watch a more serious motoring focused TGT, but he will be sent to watch it in the bedroom as his wife won't want to see it. His young son will get bored half way.
Its 3 buddies having a laugh that people like to see, they could drop cars tomorrow and move it to boats, yachts and jetskis and people would still watch it.

I've said before, TGT is aimed at people who watched TG for them three, not the cars. TG had the good balance. The numpties on social media slating TG don't seem to understand that Top Gear is still a car-focused show, Grand Tour isn't

Exactly, and that is why TG was so popular. However, they aren't doing that very well on TGT due to overscripting and underacting. That's the point a lot of people are trying to make, and it gets shouted down as not understanding who TGT is for...

I never bought the 350million figure. Felt a bit like it should be written on a red bus But I will accept that pure PH content has a smaller figure.Take Chris Harris's You Tube channel, average viewers he gets is 500k, 375k subscriber i.e.a non event. Top gear had 350,000,000 viewers worldwide.

But even CE TG was getting 2.6M by the last show (down from 6+ for the first) I would LOVE to see accurate numbers from Amazon. My gut would be the first episode was high. 2nd probably 80% and then 3rd less than half as people got hacked off with ep2. Did anyone, even non PH people find it hilarious?
"its 3 buddies having a laugh" Yes I get why the original TG was a success. Nothing I've seen from TGT (thus far) comes anywhere close to the highs of CHM TG though. Even less the "having a laugh" part.

Indeed, and this is why they should have done what the name implies, a Grand Tour.A worldwide tour starting in the UK. Each week is a different three cars (or other vehicles) travelling a leg of the world tour. Along the way they could get into scrapes as per the trip type films they've made before.
No need for tents, fake guests etc.
I genuinely thought that they had realised the best bits of TG were stuff like the Africa trip, Bolivia, USA (x2), Polar trip, Vietnam etc and were taking advantage of the extra budget to create that very show. A series of road trips linked together to create....a Grand Tour.
I was surprised when episode 1 was what it was, disappointed when I watched 2, hopeful when I watched the Italian bits of 3 and I stopped watching 3/4 of the way through 4.
Shame. I can't understand why they didn't do that.

They won't release, closest we can get is if any of the pirate sites release their stats. But even CE TG was getting 2.6M by the last show (down from 6+ for the first) I would LOVE to see accurate numbers from Amazon.

My wife has only seen episode 3 so far, found bits hilarious. You are looking at it from a different angle to most people, the masses have a very low bar on what they deem as good. Eastenders tops the iPlayer list and Citizen Khan is in the top 10! Let's not even go on to to Towie or Kardashians...
You could say that people such as yourselves are not the target for Amazon, they don't want people who will question things, they want loyal sheep shoppers who won't compare prices elsewhere

They have always been very hit and miss, but there isn't an alternative to what they provide so a significant core of people will always be tuning in. At least now with it being is online and not live on TV, you can forward any bits you don't like! Like the bizarre celeb death.
We will find out in 3 years time if Amazon renew or CHM decide to split up.

I don't remember watching many hour long shows on Youtube. Youtube is for quickfire videos.
Reports suggest The Grand Tour is watched by 1.95m. Is that the fact so few people are willing to pay, or it's on a platform that takes effort to access?

well, we've just watched ep4, and yes, the eco-cars did go on too long.
But the rest, well, that's exactly what I want to see from CHM & W. Brain-out entertainment with a touch of cars thrown in. The cinematography in the Porsche/BMW section was as good as anything I've seen on TV and I'm tempted to say it's the best so far.
The difference between TGT and Top Gear (any version) ? My missus watches it as well, which is saying a lot because she couldn't be bothered with CHM on TG and gave up on CE's first episode as well.
As someone else posted, the attraction of this series isn't cars, it's 3 old blokes messing about like 5 year olds and I'll bet that has a wider audience than any version of TG we've had. Remember, the viewing figures at the old TG really took off when they started acting silly, and I think that's what Amazon want. By the end of this series they'll be into a groove and I'll be stunned if it's dropped next year.

I'll grant you this would've had me hooked and re-watching. Not that I dislike what's currently happening - just it could be so much betterA worldwide tour starting in the UK. Best episode so far although the sustainable cars bit went on a bit too long.
I think the main thing this programme needs as a whole is a good editor.
I agree with this. The old top gear was the same length as TGT, yet somehow is never felt laboured of full of filler. TGT does. Some good ideas, but its like they slow everything down to fill the space, and it never felt that way on he old top gear. I think the main thing this programme needs as a whole is a good editor.
