It's a shame the bike vids didn't do well.

A niche within a niche I assume.

Sent them to my biking mate and he wasn't interested as Dakar bikes just were not his thing.
Perhaps, but I'd say just make the videos you like making, it's not a commercial endeavour, so just do what you enjoy and leave chasing the numbers for people who have made that their purpose in life. People who enjoy your content will watch it.

I mean, were you worried about Evo's circulation not being what Max Power's was back in their heyday?

Well yes but with the videos doing less well Harry implied he would be doing less of them.

Maybe the commercial aspect does matter.

I have never owned a motorbike, and only ridden one a couple of times, but the Dakar bike vids were fascinating to me as I knew nothing at all about them. The details like extra fuel tanks under / behind the seats that made them look like they did were all new to me, and the development over the years was interesting too.

Harry's vids are at their best for me when he is just showing us around things that he really loves and why he loves them so much, and all in the style of popping round a mate's house and getting a conversation that starts "have you seen this old thing I've got out in the shed?"

I have watched a lot more of Harry's Farm than I ever thought I would for similar reasons!

I am not particularly interested in farming - but watch Harry's Farm as I like him and am learning things in the process.

Harry seems like one of my chums... knowledgeable and not really after 'clicks', just sharing his passions. That's a winning combination.

I can no longer watch presenters hysterically giggling as they drift around corners - zero interest. But a man who knows his onions and is telling you interesting things and real world experiences - that's good content. smile

I feel that Harry is the first honest looking person that I've seen climbing out of an SLR. There was always something a bit odd about the car in the manner in which it seemed to attract the most awful individuals for whom honesty was just an aftershave.

The M113 V8 that the SLR engine was derived from really was one of the all time great V8s. Hugely underrated. A bulletproof, tiny SOHC unit that packed a massive punch while creating a beautiful sound.

It always surprised me that so little was ever done with these engines in aftermarket terms as that era of Mercs rotted away quicker than a 70s Jag leaving behind engines that were smaller than the ubiquitous aftermarket RV8 and Chevy engines but packing more punch and with that sound track.

I remember back in 2011 intending to put one into a Range Rover Classic but learning that all the aftermarket businesses for Mercs were built around chips, wraps and carbon fibre bits with Blue Peter sticky back plastic.

I don't know how much his popularity has increased but the fact it has is understandable.

He doesn't know everything and comes out with the odd cringeworthy comment but his videos are better for that.

Real reality TV rather than manufactured.

I’m not a biker but do watch iOM TT and if Moto GP is on I’d certainly watch.

As such to a non biker I found these Dakar vids really interesting. I’d happily watch other bike vids from Harry - partly as he is very good at content and explaining in enough detail for the audience.
Maybe Harry Jnr could do the bikes as a compromise.

New update video of the Jag out smile. Time for a cider or two and enjoy the video.

These restoration videos are really interesting, I didn’t expect to enjoy these as much, but the level of detail and balanced delivery kept me watching. Still love a good road trip though!

I can’t help but be interested in the financial aspect, how much does a perfectly restored xjc go for these days? I appreciate this is not done for financial gain but the increase in value must at least help offset some of the cost?

I absolutely love that Jag. Something like that appeals to me far more than any mid-engined supercar.

I'd watch Harry explaining how to knit a jumper. I feel educated, excited and chilled in equal measure after watching him.

Thanks for watching them. I never expected these restoration vids to be overly popular but then I guess they each turn into a mini soap-opera, as the up and downs of doing a 'live' restoration unfolds. I really enjoy doing them too and while the end result is bound to be worth more then the car we started with, that's definitely not the main driver.

It's more about the journey and then knowing you have one of the very best examples out there at the end of it. Seeing the skills of both Keith and Brad at Painting Classic cars up close, doing stuff I would have just given up on weeks ago, is cool too. The engine looks mega as well and I'm hugely grateful to Tom Lenthall for doing that too. Can't wait to see it installed in the finished car!

Ha! I've met some dodgy owners of SLRs too. That engine is one of AMG's best. I keep recommending good SL55 to friend's looking for a characterful roadster. The only issue with them is their clever suspension and anti-roll tech, which can cause issues but the engine is a peach. I'd quite like an SLR or SL55 in the garage but I've decided I prefer the easy life (and near zero running costs) with the equally potent Jaguar Project 7.

Very much reality TV, there's never a script to the farm videos! I see them as a bit of a video diary of what's happening on farms around the country. The variability of seasons from year to year always comes as a surprise to friends who have what you could call 'normal businesses'.

I explain farming as being a bit like a food factory but one without a roof, which means the weather always have the final say as to whether you have a good year or not. At least 2021 is looking like a good year; at the moment anyway..

Perhaps an odd question, Harry, but do you get a regular stream of people turning up at your place taking pictures and so on, on the assumption that you're some kind of public property?

Yeah it’s going to look gorgeous based on the colour in the engine bay.

Another vote in favour of that green Harry, it’s going to look superb across the acres of metal smile

Are you thinking of an actual gold pinstripe just to finish it off? hehe

I like the colour too but I don't think it will age well.

Using non-original colours is very much the thing right now with the current trend of restomods.

I predict that in a few years, we will look at mods like this and think " what were they thinking".

Then again, I predicted Y2K would be the biggest thing to hit since WW2, that people aren't gullible enough to vote Brexit and that this Wuhan thing will blow over like SARS did.
