Ant-Man. A lot better than I expected.
Ant-Man is in my top three MCU films. That actor can do little wrong for me.

Cheers BOTC, I'll set that to record. As mentioned on another thread, if you haven't seen it pls do take the opportunity to record or watch Any tomorrow (Saturday) night. Amazingly moving documentary.

I saw her father on the telly this week, he was describing how this film is a poor representation of her last year and not accurate, leaving out a lot.
He is hoping to make a more representative film himself.
As others have said, although I feel for his loss the guy shouldn't be let near the press. I'll give him the doubt that he simply doesn't come across well as opposed to the money grabbing poor parent he appears to be whenever let near a film crew.

[as an aside, having read up a little further on this sorry tale all the evidence points to a very sick young woman being incredibly exploited by those closest around her, the two very same people she looked up to and wanted to impress the most.]

As for the film, there's always going to be so much left out of a biopic, how can you squeeze a whole life into one and a half hours? The trick is (I imagine) is to pick your narrative and select the footage that supports it, something the team did incredibly well with Senna too.

Speaking of which, I recall Senna being shown at our local cinema only once so it was a great chance to see old friends who were motorsports enthusiasts & participants. The strange thing was, I can recall being the only fan of Senna's in my peer group back then yet there they all were, incredibly emotional after the film saying what a talent and it was a tragedy he was killed. The very same people who despised him back in the day.

They managed the same with Amy for me, I couldn't stand the woman and her car crash celebrity drugged up existence but the film, so powerful as it was has made me see her in a new light. Real or imagined, that's a pretty powerful talent to have in film making smile

Why shouldn't he be let near the press?

For anyone who hasn't seen it 'The Secret In Their Eyes' is on BBC2 on Sunday night - well, 12.40 am.

After Pulp Fiction, the 2nd best film I've ever seen - an Argentinian crime film about a long unresolved case during the repression of the Junta. Fantastically scripted and acted, with some laugh out loud (usually black) humour, a moving sub-plot, thrills galore and plenty of twists and turns, and some genuinely scary moments.

Picked by Mark Kermode as his pick of the weekend on the movie review slot on R5 today, when he also mentioned the new English language update whichI'd not heard of, and which he notes is not as good as the original.

A fantastic film, I can't recommend it highly enough
Yep, a stunning film.

Particularly love the shot going over the Boca Juniors (?) football stadium and the sinister ending.

A few Marx Bros films are being shown on Gold at the moment - some comic gems there, especially 'Duck Soup'. Reminds me I need to get hold of a copy of 'A Day at the Races' at some stage...my favourite film of theirs!

Deadpool 9/10

Deserves a second viewing. I went in having avoided reading anything about it and since it was 11:30 this morning at my local independent cinema I was the only person in, so it was a private screening! Although that one only has about 25 seats anyway biggrin

I was surprised by how adult it was, a refreshing change for Marvel and I hope they do a sequel.

Licence to Drive 10/10

On TV right now and it's a long time since I've watched it. Forgot how good it is!

In the small time it's been out, it's already the second most successful X-Man film, out of 8. So I reckon a sequel is a good bet.

Because he consistently comes across as a money grabbing poor parent.

indeed Coreys Haim and Feldman as well as a young Heather Graham - good fun.

Hot Pursuit: Reese Withaspoon, Sophia Vergara. Mildly amusing cop comedy 55%

Ridiculous 6: It's not the worst thing that Sandler has been in but it had the feel of a 45 minute sketch dragged out to a feature film 45%. It strikes me that AS is a one trick pony but I just don't understand how he keeps on getting not only funding but decent actors to star in his films (mind you, said that about Uwe Boll for years!)

John Wick - very poor, looked like it was made by a bunch of teenagers. 2/13
Bridge of Spies - Solid cold war drama. 10/13
Million Dollar Baby - Very good and not exactly as I expected. 11/13
Inception - Gave up after 30 minutes, it had given me a headache.

That Sugar Film
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3892434/

Healthy man switches from a diet completely free of refined/processed sugar and eats a "normal" diet based on low fat products, juices and supposedly healthy soft drinks etc.

No new revelations really but it was well made and easy to watch with a couple of interesting nuggets of info. One being that he did not increase his calorie intake, just the type of food, he gained 8kg (IIRC) started with a fatty liver and went from looking slightly drawn and wiry, but in a healthy way, to what we would now describe as normal; ie. a bit full in the face and belly with that slightly glazed look many people have nowadays.

Also fizzy soft drinks really are the work of the devil, they just kill you slowly from the teeth backwards.

It certainly prompted me to go food shopping yesterday and only by fresh produce. It's hard bypassing all the goodies though!

Anyway it scores a 4/5 turkey twizlers from me.

I didn't find him that way on...whatever morning show it was, Phil Schofield, but it is the only time I have seen him or heard the film discussed.

John Wick

Well covered here already but finally saw it yesterday; entertaining nonsense in a similar vein (but not as good) as Taken.

Cool sets / locations & muscle cars throughout helped.

It was entertaining, but if John Wick had been the same badass at the beginning as he was for the rest of the film, none of it would have happened.
