Love the colour on the Jaguar
Was shocked however at nearly 500 hours labour including painting.
I was surprised the other way. They've achieved a huge amount to a fantastic standard in the 300 or so odd hours. Was shocked however at nearly 500 hours labour including painting.
I was also interested to hear about how they seal in the polyester with another layer of epoxy.
Fabulous work!
The range of output is really interesting, insights into cars I'll never own whilst restoring a few that appeal to the frustrated mechanic in me - I think the latter are my favourites actually.
I agree with others in preferring the fly on the wall nature which is refreshingly straightforward and easily identifiable without any nonsense or ego.
Jag update ideal for this morning's commute!

That Jaguar has nearly as many coats of paint as Binky! Nearly...
Perfect colour. If it ages then it ages, but right now it is spot-on, and properly sorted underneath. I can't wait to see it with the engine installed. Will the concours judges like the colour? Possibly not, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

30 days work for two people. Stripping the car and engine, ordering all the parts, fabricating parts, refurbing all the parts, rebuilding the engine, fixing a rotten whale carcass and then decorating that carcass and putting everything back together. The number of hours seems fine. I was also interested to hear about how they seal in the polyester with another layer of epoxy.

The paint stuff was very interesting and the colour looks great.

I agree with all this. I'm not sure why Harry would even bother entering into a concours. It's a personal project and the only judge that matters is him.Perfect colour. Loving all the comments here. Nice to see the appreciation the Jag project is getting.
I really hope Harry carries on with all these videos - to me it is some of the best TV on at the moment.

Thanks for watching them. I never expected these restoration vids to be overly popular but then I guess they each turn into a mini soap-opera, as the up and downs of doing a 'live' restoration unfolds.
It's fantastic - we feel we get to be part of the process (like we're actually doing a restoration ourselves) but without having to foot the bill in the end ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

I really enjoy doing them too and while the end result is bound to be worth more then the car we started with, that's definitely not the main driver.
It's more about the journey and then knowing you have one of the very best examples out there at the end of it. Seeing the skills of both Keith and Brad at Painting Classic cars up close, doing stuff I would have just given up on weeks ago, is cool too. The engine looks mega as well and I'm hugely grateful to Tom Lenthall for doing that too. Can't wait to see it installed in the finished car!
i have to say that I am getting some sadistic pleasure out of the fact that when down to the metal your XJC was worse than mine which is the black one Keith has It's more about the journey and then knowing you have one of the very best examples out there at the end of it. We went to the Bicester Scramble on Saturday, and I'm sure this must be the SLR that Harry had ? Seems to have all the same bits on it and is the right colour. Doubt there are too many MSO SLRs about.
I have to stay it still doesn't do anything for me at all, I thought it was a dog's breakfast of a design when it came out, and I don't think it's improved with age.

I was there Saturday too, highlight for me was seeing the 959 in the back of that picture just casually parked up and a little bit dirty. Clearly the owner actually uses it and I love that. I was a little bit obsessed with the 959 growing up and it is the ultimate 'classic fast car' for me. Bicester was also excellent. I hadn't been before and will now aim to go every year.I have to stay it still doesn't do anything for me at all, I thought it was a dog's breakfast of a design when it came out, and I don't think it's improved with age.
