Apparently not. He ate a "clean" diet.

That's like a list of 10 great films I really should watch again!

Good explanation of the endings there, I always thought that was the whole point of Total Recall too.

BTW Don't watch the remake with Colin Farrell, it's ste.

The Martian - finally watched this last night. Not bad, I can see why it's liked but I wasn't blown away by it. Solid 7/10 however.

I can see a flaw in your plan laugh

Yeah. I attempted it, but got bored extremely quickly.

I thought it was ok actually. It was certainly much more faithful to the book than Arnie's version was.

It was pretty unforgettable compared to the Arnold version. Same applies to the updated Robocop.

Yep, it's pretty hard to remake a classic better or as good as the original.

Shame as Farrell normally stars in some very decent films.

Perhaps. But when the original is only very loosely based on a preceding book, then a remake has the opportunity to return to the source material and make a different film that more closely follows the source.

I'm not talking specifically about Total Recall, btw, but in more general terms.

That Sugar Film
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3892434/

Healthy man switches from a diet completely free of refined/processed sugar and eats a "normal" diet based on low fat products, juices and supposedly healthy soft drinks etc.

No new revelations really but it was well made and easy to watch with a couple of interesting nuggets of info. One being that he did not increase his calorie intake, just the type of food, he gained 8kg (IIRC) started with a fatty liver and went from looking slightly drawn and wiry, but in a healthy way, to what we would now describe as normal; ie. a bit full in the face and belly with that slightly glazed look many people have nowadays.

Also fizzy soft drinks really are the work of the devil, they just kill you slowly from the teeth backwards.

It certainly prompted me to go food shopping yesterday and only by fresh produce. It's hard bypassing all the goodies though!

Anyway it scores a 4/5 turkey twizlers from me.
Another interesting film on a similar topic is 'Fed up'.

Film studios do it to make money,"re boot" the idea to a new generation. They are the film equivalent of a cover version.

How many more times will we see star trek, batman and superman?

These studios must get hundreds of scripts a week, and i bet somewhere among them are some crackers, they just don't like taking too many risks.

Back on topic- Watched Spectre this weekend, as bond films go it left me a bit meh. Skyfall was better.
As my teachers used to say "could do better" 5/10

Talking of remakes, Amazon Prime has a Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven transposed from the wild west to feudal Japan. Reviews are good.

War Horse - I had almost watched this a few times, but recorded it a few weeks ago and the wife was in hospital for a night, so I finally got the chance.

It's a kid's book originally, so it's perhaps no surprise that the film pulls some punches on the horrors of war (don't expect Saving Private Ryan - WW1 version), although the waste doesn't go unmentioned, but overall it was a very well made, enjoyable film with a lot of very well known British actors featuring.

7/10.

Now there's a twist, or did I miss the sarcasm?

Deadpool. Loved it; just what I needed after a stty week or so at work; some proper brain-out viewing. I know nothing of the other Marvel movies other than maybe some pop-culture references, but the jokes and gags in this were thick and fast (#driveby being a particular favourite). 8/10 - only marked down because I feel, much like kick-ass, I am unlikely to watch it again as it won't be as funny.

Yeah, no need to remake a classic (few exceptions), but remaking mediocre films or turkeys is fine.

That's how we got The Maltese Falcon and The Thing.
