The formula is starting to wear a bit thin come S3, as it does with many sitcoms. But its still a good watch - I think you've got to be something of a geek/nerd, or know one, to really appriciate it though. But I guess that goes for most programs.
maybe they do but most US sitcoms seem to exist in this wierd paralelle universe were no other TV or films exist.... which is just odd as people quote TV and film all the time in real life.T89 Callan said:
I know this is going to sound like a silly reason to like it but....... I appreciate the way that they reference and quote other TV shows and films, no Yank sitcom has ever really done this and it made them seem abit detached from reality.
Not sure about that - other programs like Chuck (similar vein, I guess) also refences film/entertainment in both a subtle and non-subtle way. Season 2 was ace, I'm not quite sure about Season 3 yet but Howards song at the end of the latest episode had me in tears.
Ah, but do you freeze-frame the vanity card in the end credits just to see what that week's message is?
(I do)
Also: http://www.chucklorre.com/index.php (I can't help but read them with Sheldon's voice in my head... It's the phraseology. And the pacing.)

Yep, the OH and I watch this when it comes out, I'm a geek but she is the one who is hounding me to download them ASAP.
One of the best 20 minute shows out there at the moment, makes for a good break when you don't have the time/effort to watch house/heroes/etc.
Sheldon's laugh is amazing.

It's brilliant. I expected it to be painful (I'm a physicist) but it's obvious the writers are scientists or are good friends with some people who are. I loved the Rocky style 'physics montage'.
Apparently they put alot of work into making sure that the 'nerdy' parts are accurate. They even make it so that Sheldons work on his boards is actually progressing on string theory calculations.Just reading Wikipedia and read this:

The show's initial pilot, developed for the 2006–07 television season, was substantially different from its current form. Only Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki were in the cast, and their across-the-hall neighbor Katie (played by actress Amanda Walsh ) was a much meaner character. They also had a female friend called Gilda (played by actress Iris Bahr). The show's original theme music was also different, using Thomas Dolby's hit "She Blinded Me With Science". The show was not picked up, but the creators were given an opportunity to revise the show, bringing in the remaining leading cast and retooling the show to its current format. The original unaired pilot has never been released on any official format but copies of it are floating around the internet with various collectors. On the evolution of the show, Lorre bluntly admitted "We did the 'Big Bang Pilot' about two and a half years ago, and it sucked...but there were two remarkable things that worked perfectly, and that was Johnny and Jim. We rewrote the thing entirely, and then we were blessed with Kaley and Simon and Kunal." As to whether the world will ever see that original pilot, maybe on a DVD, Lorre said "Wow that would be something, we will see. Show your failures..
Does anyone here know about this pilot at all?Halb said:
