lready been done.
She looks cold Watched the new episode t'other night... some kind of hateful anonymous 80s Merc The programme is even more of a triumph of style over substance than it ever was. Need to change a camchain on a Merc V8? Ooooooh, handily enough we have all the special tools necessary lying about. Exactly like the home mechanic does Funnily enough, there was a repeat of an earlier series on telly tonight (when isn't there) which featured Edd making a lutch alignment tool out of a bolt wrapped in masking tape. Now that's more like it
Just watching the new episode on catch up.
Am very pleased they have finally taken need of my idea* of informing us how long they spent carrying out the work. Not sure how accurate it is, but it's a neat touch.

- i put it on their facebook page about 3 years ago so it must be my idea, right?
All the specialist tools used on the latest build did seem a little silly as they would really need to add the cost of all those tools to the build costs. I can't see anyone having those tools as who would spend so much on tools you would have so little use for.
I actually like 80's SL's but actually thought the lowering job they did on it did not really suit it. It just did not look right to me. Apart from that very nice solid car and it was amazing to see how well preserved underneath these dry state cars are.

Success in the US market - which this series seems to unashamedly be trying to do, they don't even bother with dollar/pound equivalents - will be far more lucrative for Mike and Ed and the production co. Don't expect a return to the 'Ed in a shed' style anytime soon... or rather, ever.
Shame.
Shame.

They did do the pound conversion at the end. The program has never been the last word in slick TV, but that awkward 'chat' at the start about the SL was pretty painful. They have not improved the format. Shame.

The awful NTSC format makes it almost unwatchable on a proper PAL TV!
PAL Analogue was turned off in 2012, we use DVB-T (SD) and DVB-T2 (HD) now. As I mentioned to you on the other thread the US is now ATSC digital, NTSC analogue was mainly closed down in 2009 with the last few going in 2015.FourWheelDrift said:

I have no idea what this means, but I agree that it's not nice to watch!DoctorX said:
Stored away for 12 years because "he couldn't tune the carbs" Really? I would do without the air con too, looks a bit crap screwed to the dash.
Pity they skipped the fitting of it. In fact, they pretty much skipped over everything Ed did with the car.The entire last quarter of the show was devoted to the pair of them mucking about in the finished car, rather than the finishing touches followed by the sale.
Bit disappointing on the whole

Was the lack of legroom caused by the air-con unit the reason that Edd was forced to sit in the back on their test drive at the end of the programme? Seems like a pretty crap add-on if so.
Hoho, yeah that was probably it, covered with a backseat driver gag. That's another reason it goes in the centre normally..
Thought the air con install section was a bit weak - I'd have loved to have seen a bit more info about it as I have considered such an upgrade for my Amazon, but given the amount of time you really need it in this country, it hardly seems worth it for the expense and hassle… unless my six numbers match one week.
I can understand why they installed the unit in front of the passenger seat: the PV has a very, very long gearstick (about a meter in length and I'm not joking). Brewer/China did mention clearance issues during the show to be fair to them.
You can get a kit which relocates the stick to a conventional length, position and shorter throw. You have to cut and weld the tunnel and modify the gearbox top in order for it to work. Never bothered with it on my car as I'm quite fond of my comically long stick (!) and it's part of the character of the car IMO. It's also a surprisingly precise mechanism given the length of the shifter… not a linkage in sight to make things a bit sloppy.
I also thought the 30 - 60 time was a bit slow. I'm going to test mine on the way home from work if I get the chance to establish a comparison (not that it's really fair given that I have the B20 lump and a bit more power - but what the hell!).
