I enjoyed it but as it's being sold as an Edgar Wright action/car chase film so I was expecting more chases and more laughs. It's very good but, for me, not great. I would have liked the film to be interested in cars or at least to have a character like them because there's next to nothing and another chase – there's only two of any length.
Although not really a problem the characters are fairly one dimensional but they are still believable and I don't think anyone's buying tickets to this expecting a character study.
The only thing that annoyed me was a couple of scenes where people talk about music, in fact the film is much more interested in music than cars, I find these kind of scenes boring and indulgent in any film. Just play the songs and show us the emotions.
Reading that back it sounds harsh I don't mean it to be it's just I feel it was just another brilliant chase and two or three more laughs from being excellent.
It's not a car film though, he's only driving because he has to. Music means everything to him, so that's what they focussed on.Although not really a problem the characters are fairly one dimensional but they are still believable and I don't think anyone's buying tickets to this expecting a character study.

I don't think that is right. He is only involved with crime because he is coerced into it, and he can only be coerced into it because he stole a car for a joy ride. Driving and music are big elements in his life, and both feature prominently. Taking away either would fundamentally change the nature of the film and the main character.
Just got back, I challenge anyone not to smile for the opening 10 minutes, particularly the second sequence (the coffee run), wonderfully executed.
Most definately not a car movie, more of a heist/love story where the key and overriding element is music.
Somebody mentioned forgettable, that's pretty much opposite to my thoughts, I'd watch it again tomorrow and it's going to take a long long time to get those songs out of my head.

I'd question anyone who didn't enjoy this movie and ask if they actually watched this movie, or something else...
There will be the inevitable handful of people who simply saw the "driver" in the title and assume it's an out-and-out car film, when it's not (just like Drive) and then complain there weren't enough car details in it.Loved the film; seriously considering going to see it again at the local cine-plex which would be the first time I've ever done that for a film.
Not quiet what I was expecting, but in a good way! Choreography was fantastic in places, with the backgrounds matching musical tones and lyrics, and the weapons syncing with music. I had genuine feelings for the character especially the adoptive father. You could tell the script was written way before being filmed, it felt like a proper old film, very different to modern stuff and I like that.
6/10 - would watch again.

I saw this the other day. Thought it was okay, 6/10. First third was amazing, middle third good, the last third poor in my opinion. It didn't need the terminator bad guy. Seems like the writing ran out of ideas and just went back to cliche.I didn't find it cliched at all - but there were plenty of nods to other films , especially Bonnie and Clyde and (in opening few minutes) Dirty Harry. Music choices spot on but very far removed from being the glossy music video some critics alluded to in reviews . Lovely to see a film without bloody CGI - and visually I thought it was arrestingly good . Plot paper thin but I wasn't expecting Hamlet here . Acting great - if turned up to 11 in some cases . I am sure Kevin Spacey had a struggle not corpsing - his cartoon villain persona was wonderful .
Saw this the other night, thought it was very refreshing, didn't follow the usual expected cliches.
Only one question, and hopefully this isn't a spoiler, I'll try and word it not to give anything away but if you've not seen the film, maybe stop reading (you won't be able to answer it anyway! )
Toward the end, the boss character is with them in the lift, they come out of the lift and there are three people waiting for them. Who were those people?
