As I said the last 20 times a thread of this nature has been started - "2001 - A Space Odyssey".

And it won't change

To me, it's the only film that matters.

Is it the complex plot or the nuanced characterisation that so distinguishes these sadly overlooked cinematic milestones do you think ?

Hmm, i'm going to cheat like the rest of you...

1) Lord of the Rings Trilogy (and the Hobbit trilogy although i would not call them the "best", just that i enjoyed them)
2) Matrix Trilogy (yes i actually enjoyed all three films)
3) Saving Private Ryan
4) Jurassic Park Series
5) Starship Troopers

Note: I like Sci-Fi and value entertainment/ universe creation over a writer trying to over complicate a story ect.
