Will they make the seagulls fly backwards in Greyhound, do you think, using CGI of course?

My dad was on two Arctic convoys. From what little he told me about them, nothing I can imagine could come close to the experience. He used to read C S Forrester so the books can't have been too inaccurate.

Greyhound looks superb from the trailers but it's moved to Apple TV. Is this likely to be available elsewhere such as Sky/Netflix after a certain time?

I believe Apple paid £70m for exclusive rights, not sure if that’s permanent or time limited though.

Looks interesting, not too gung ho I hope. A friend of my mothers was on the convoys and survived being sunk by a U boat.
My Grandad too ... he never stopped banging on about it ... and I never tired of him doing so :-)

Shame he's not around anymore to see this.
Hell, my grandad got torpedoed three times, once in WW1 and twice in WW2. He was not named Albert! The trailer looks good, and CS Forrester wrote bloody good sea stories.

Are you sure? I ask in ignorance but see references to larger numbers on some of the bigger convoy attacks.

What a film. Edge of the seat stuff. It felt heavily edited and could have been longer imo, but the action sequences are fantastic.

It was, unfortunately, really quite dull.

A slight surprise given how many gripping warship and submarine films have been made over the years. You'd think a new one would have enough prior art available as reference material to be able to make a sure footed success, but not this time.

I think they were going for a "chaos in the fog of war in a constrained environment" effect, but it was grey, and flat, and repetitive, and chaotic enough that it was hard to envisage what was happening.

I think you've summed it up well. The credits are still rolling now as i type. Part of me had no idea what was going on. it felt rushed and lacked any kind of tension and really quite boring.

What a disappointment.

Good film. Not brilliant. Pretty gripping and exciting, told a simple story well. Better than 1917, which I found dull and derivative.

Enjoyed it, quite tense at times, some good action.

Where to look. There were convoys all over the place, not just the Atlantic (of course the start they were limited but production ramped up over time). They had Brazilian convoys attacked, there were attacks in the Indian ocean, South Africa/coast of Africa and the Med. Italian boats also took part don't forget.

Really is a good site.

Fortunate that they did not start the war with many, and were hobbled making the later XXI

Was on holiday on Il de Re a few years ago and had a look at the U Boat base at La Rochelle. The building still chills and carries an ominous presence.

Cool site. Cheers.

On this day in 1940 there were only 10 U boats at sea. On a random date in 1944 there were well over 60 at sea at a time.

Have to say I really enjoyed that. For some reason I was expecting more of a slow build up, but it jumped into the action pretty quickly. Hanks once again proving he's one of the best actors out there.

My only "gripe" was whether the taunting over the radio by the U-boat crews was historically accurate? A quick google search suggests there was no evidence of this, and that the U-boats were actually only able to listen and not transmit?
