Is this based on true events then? The blurb made it sound like fiction?
It literally said at the start.

Based on real events, with drama and fiction in-between.
I think, in episode 1, about half the characters are fictional.

You've never heard of the Brinks Mat gold heist?

Seriously?

Yes the facts were displayed at the start. They expected to find £1m, but got away with £27m.
It's still in circulation today, if you've got gold jewellery you're likely to have some in its content.

There are people of a younger generation who don’t even know WW2 took place, so a heist 40 odd years ago… ?

And the £1m was in pesetas, so a completely different disposal procedure.

In our house the test for a good drama is my wife still being awake at the end. Unfortunately she wasn't for this one.

I would imagine there’s an awful lot of ‘whataboutism’ in this given that most of the people involved would be unwilling or unable (through being either dead or otherwise engaged) to assist in the making of the series.

I read they had input from people involved with Brinks Mat but who knows.

Weird the guy from Slow Horses is playing Noye, he looks more like McAvoy

This is really ITV territory, they must have turned it down,
not that surprised, it's a tad wordy and unremarkable, great moustaches though.

I really wonder if there was a senior female detective involved back then, or
more likely a typical BBC shoehorn exercise.

Same here.It seems to be a thing nowadays to keep low tones or something to try and make it all dark and moody.

Hollywood films now are shocking I and many others I know can't here a feckin work. Old films or Allo! Allo! are fine. ears

Finished the series today and it was a struggle in the end, dull and not enough going on for six episodes.

Making Noye out to be a loveable rogue also grated a bit.

Meh.

Spotted that.

The dummy gold bars look to be way too light. A real one weighs about 28 pounds, you wouldn't be waving it around like a jumbo bar of Toblerone.
Years ago, there was a clip on TV of a little lad meeting the Governor of the Bank of England. On his desk the Governor had a bar of gold. He said to the little lad, "If you can lift it, you can have it." He had a good go, bless him.

OT
They pulled a 500ib bomb out of the river with a dredger in Gt Yarmouth last week.
The first thing a young lad at work said was "where did that come from?" rolleyesrofl

There is obviously a need to strike the right balance but I am quite encouraged that younger generations may be moving on rather than fapping over Spifires. I enjoyed The Gold ep. 1.

Deliberate ploy so that when/if he turns nasty it's more dramatic. Like Robert Prosky's Leo in "Thief".

Lasted fifteen minutes before turning it off. It was so boring!!

Talking of the cars that shouldn't have been there, did anyone else notice the metallic grey Ford Orion Ghia with the 14 inch pepperpot wheels in the police car park? I think it was a H reg car, so definitely not out in 1983!

I did watch one called the curse of the Brinks Mat robbery last week though. It was more of a documentary. That show was much better.
