Going to have to go with the missus to see this although having seen Casino Royale and knowing what ste that was, I am expecting this to be more of the same (ie not very good - all special effects in lieu of any plot (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) I'll just be waiting for the end believe me!
Aside from the beginning sequence Casino Royal hardly has any special effects - or am I missing a huge part of the film?

I didnt like it the first time I saw it, but on the second viewing I did. Bond was dark and flawed - more Dalton than Connery.

Craig could be better than Connery. Where Connery scored, and still does, is that he can't help being gritty, he's that kind of bloke. Craig is the same but more so. Dalton wasn't bad, but too upmarket. Whatever Fleming meant, he's not a gentleman. The others were just clotheshorses.

Everyone knows the last decent bond film was Goldeneye and then Tomorrow Never Dies was quite entertaining. After that all the others have been terrible and the CGI looked bad. They should just leave it out. I don't think i'll see a new bond film any more as they're all poor. Never watched Casino Royale and couldn't give a care about the new one.
Then I think you have missed the best Bond film ever.

TBH apart from the comedy "defibrilate yerself then carry on with the evening" moment Casino Royale was pretty good IMO, more of a back to basics Bond film.

If you call yourself a Bond fan, you have to see Casino Royale.
Yep, the original with David Niven tho .........
I hold my hands up and admit I have never seen it all the way through, I am so ashamed! To be honest though, its stupid, no Bond is meant to be a comedy, he was a serious author until Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

What is so bad about the modern Casino Royale? Apart from it should be Baccarat and not poker.
Couldn't swear to it but I thought it was Chemin de Fer in the book?

As an aside, I played roulette in the Casino in Monte Carlo on Saturday! Felt a bit of a nob standing in the queue for chips with all these millionaires cashing x thousand Euros and me with my trusty 50 Euro note...

Great fun though, a bit of a Bond moment and one to check off the list... smile
Pretty certain it was Baccarat. I'm no good at remembering card games, but whatever one it was I seem to recall that the whole game revolved around making hands as close as possible to 9. Does that sound like Baccarat?

Back on topic, apart from Goldeneye I thought the other Brosnan films were very poor. I thouroughly enjoyed Casino Royale however and I'm looking forward to QoS.

Caught a glimpse of some programme on itv last night about the history of bond, Daniel Craig said he is contracted to do 4 bond films.

What is it with people sgging films off without even seeing them?
I dont want to read someones opinion on something they know nothing of.
Keep it to yourself, if you didnt like the last film fine, more fool you if you feel the need to sit through the next one to justify moaning about it.

I, and the missus, will go see it (if we can get a baby sitter!) after watching CR and really enjoying it.

What does 'Quantum of Solace'( proper noun?) mean ?
Its taken from an original Fleming short story and its something along the lines of 'when a man loses the woman he loves there isn't a quantum of solace left in the world'.
I quite like the phrase to be honest.

This is Pistonheads. If we can all assess how good/bad a car's going to be just by looking at the picture and a press release, then a mere film? Pah!

had to turn that off. they were showing way to much of the new film for someone who intends to see it at the cinema.

It means 'amount of comfort' - in this context , a very small amount

Apologies if a repost but doesn't the newest trailer just look so freaking awesome? Will there be an IMAX release?
To repeat the question of the OP

i know it wasn't filmed on IMAX film stock - but will it be enlarged to the IMAX aspect ratio ?

is it on IMAX ? - - i have phoned Odeon Manchester, my local IMAX, and they say that it all depends on demand. For the first week it will be shown on normal screens at The Printworks

If you read Ian Fleming the 'Quantum of Solace' is that amount of love/support/reward/pleasure, ie solace, in a given relationship below which there is no point in the relationship continuing.

Solace means comfort. Some people find solace in drink, some in religion, some in cars whistle

Don't imagine that Fleming was just a lucky idiot, in the right place at the right time, or a former Intelligence officer with an adolescent imagination, though he was certainly the last two. He was a very clever and complex man. Q of S - it's a good little phrase.
