Whilst putting together a trailer a scene may be used but during the final cut it is found that an alternative is better in context.
But thats NOT the case here is it. There were NEVER 15 Predator laser sights in the film...its completely concocted for the trailer. Context doesn't come into it. Watch the trailer again - all of the rest of the trailer is in the film except that one bit.

Would you prefer the inferior version was used just to keep continuity with an advert?
I'd prefer they didn't use scenes that don't actually exist and never will exist in order to get the money out of my pocket.

The Star Wars poster is an incorrect comparison as it is meant to encompass the Child-To-Man nature of Darth Vader which will be portrayed in the film. EVERYONE who saw the poster of the Vader shadow coming from the young Anakin DID NOT expect it to be in the film as it would be an impossibility - the scene in Predators was the exact opposite.

Little scenes from the trailers or minor edits have been pretty common for ages now, partly from the fact that the trailer is often completed before the theatrical cut of the film and partly because sometimes they convey it better in that context. The situation you describe with Predators sounds pretty st though!

It was a brilliant poster. I have a framed copy of it somewhere.

For those who've not seen it, here's the offending scene

In the Trailer:

Yet in the Film:
