Apologies, Enterprise lasted longer than I remembered. Glad I prompted some discussion, though.

Terminator:Sarah Connor Chronicles was looking promising, too.

B5 too, now I think about it - notified for cancellation pre S4, Strazynski goes nuts tying up the loose ends, then later told it's back on, thus S5 is a load of filler nonsense.
B5 was always scheduled for 5 seasons, I thought S5 was quite good - recently watched all 5 seasons, the occasional filler episode, but overall its still excellent viewing.

It was the spin off series around the rangers that got cancelled.

First season of SGU was quite good, but as of 4 episodes into season 2 I'm finding it difficult to watch - its mind-numbingly boring.

I thought SGU was hit and miss. Didn't like the alien episodes apart from the time they visited a planet with that building miles high. They wanted to grow SG up and make it more like BSG but they only went halfway, still had a cast of teenyboppers in amongst the solid actors. Thought the second series started off poorly but once that code in the universe thing started (and the planet that was built?) it sounded interesting again. Reminded me of Strata.

I was a bit unclear - the story was scheduled for 5 seasons, yes. But PTEN was due to go under as season 4 started and Warner wouldn't give JMS a straight answer about its future. So he tied up a lot of stuff "early", in season 4. The actual final episode was shot as the finale to season 4, but when TNT picked it up, guaranteeing a fifth season, they shifted it to the original, intended total finale and shot a new one for s4.

That's a real shame as i was enjoying SGU. My other half even liked it!!! The comments about 'filler' episodes are on the money though to be fair.

Par for the course these day. Decent shows get cancelled but we have to put up with endless talent shows(and I use the word loosely), reality TV and home makeovers. What person with any reaonable level of intelligence actually watches any of the crap that's on TV these days? I hardly watch any TV anymore, prefer to watch any series I like online. Me and the missus where actually enjoying this program. I want my TV license money back.

OH FFS. Another one down the can frown

I was really enjoying SG:U. In fact it was my fave series from the SG franchise. Couple of meh filler episodes. The Code thing I reckon would have been excellent. I hope they can fit it in without having to rush it too much.

I was just getting into SGU!

Hopefully Battlestar: Blood & Chrome will fill the gap that BSG left and won't suffer the same fate as this.

Crusade

Excellent, canned too quickly, interesting characters and a war ravaged universe to explore.

I found that I 50/50 loved/hated SGU - loved it for being an SG series and not a bad idea, but hated, HATED the way they ripped off BSG storylines and bits right down to filming in shaky-cam style and the Destiny having a fking FTL drive.

And don't even get me started on the mysteriously returned shuttle and 'dead' crew. Starbuck's Viper anyone?

IMO they had a brilliant idea but seriously dropped the ball with poor creativity and too much plagiarism.

That's not to say I won't miss it, I'm gutted it's been cancelled just as it was starting to get really good. SyFy is a horrible network if you ask me - so anti SciFi that they had to change their name from it TO SyFy.
All the decent sci fi seems to get cancelled - Caprica got binned too and that had masses of potential. I just hope V survives for its entire run.

And tonight marked the last episode.

I won't spoil anything, other than to say it's one of the best endings to a prematurely cancelled show I've seen.

I've always moaned about people not following through with a show, but I think I gave up with SGU around 5 episodes into season 2. Is it worth persevering - do they close it off quite well?

No idea - there are 20 eps in S2 in total.

I think so. The drones developed into quite a good storyline. The ending, while obviously the result of cancellation, was nicely done imo.

If there are 20 episodes in S2, we have 5 to go.

Hmmm...doesn't seem much to wrap things up...though you never know.

I nodded off watching the last episode last night, I've a pretty good idea how it will end thus leaving it open for a possible return maybe?

The pace of things seemed to speed up a lot in the second half of series 2 which was not a bad thing, although a shame that it got so much better even though it had already been canned.

ETA I'll even forgive them the time travel story line as it was a bit different from the usual "stuck in the past" stuff of TV sci-fi.

Actually that is incorrect - the ending was filmed long before the show was cancelled and was never intended to be the show's end - however, there must have been some thought that it could be the end (as these things tend to be fairly uncertain nowadays) so it served well enough.

The film was to be SG1/A/U so, whilst I won't say any more, would have most certainly figured in the "years" between S2 and S3.
