Don't approach it like you would with "normal" TV shows. It's on a whole different scale.
It's all in the game, yo.

Damn right. I nearly turned off The Wire halfway through the second episode as I just wasn't feeling it, but having just finished the whole boxset I'm sooo glad I didn't. It's the most powerful TV show ever. I think the mistake I made was treating it like 24, in that I just expected to be spoon fed non stop action and endless recaps to help me along with the plot. The Wire isn't like that, it makes you think hard about each character and the plot and how the various strands weave together. Oh yes and you also need the subtitles on too, as the street talk is pretty impentrable at the start. But do give it another go.

Approach the Wire like a novel. Not something you can dip in and out of.

Immense show.

We have Rome - Series 1&2 (Excellent)
Boston Legal (Series 1-3 - not the final season as it is just an Obama love fest and not half as good as the previous seasons)
Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes
Battlestar Galactica
Tudors
Wonders of the Solar system

Are you fully up to date on Dexter? Season 4 still my fave though it's all brilliant
Breaking Bad has also got better & better (though start of season 4 has been delayed frown )
I avoided House for first few seasons 'cos I don't like medical dramas: mistake - and there's nearly 7 US seasons worth.
Studio 60 on the Sunset strip is one of the great lost series: only one season but great, and I didn't think I liked Matthew Perry. Has anyone mentioned West Wing?
30 Rock is very funny and season one-two boxset dirt cheap

On a nostalgic tip, BBC recently re-transmitted Due South which has inspired me to get boxset.

Not on boxset for a while I guess, but The Walking Dead starts on 5 soon, worth checking out.

There was a thread on here talking about the boxset of Foyles War a while ago if you fancy something a little more laid back

The Wire. Tell your OH to get lost for a bit and watch it. Best TV programme ever!

If you listen to the OH too much you will just end up watching eastenders or something banal like that!
