Please BBC, can I have a radio station?

You have to jump around a bit, for news & sport I choose 5 live (and talk Sport but only for Hawksbee & Jacobs), for indie/rock - XFM, nostalgia Absolute - 80's, 90's & 00's, when the Mrs is in the car - Heart but TBH if I want music I really like I just plug my I-Pod in....This is an age of choice, you can jump around between stations depending on your mood.
Mind you if you were born in the fifties you probably dont know what DAB or an I-Pod is so.....its Radio 4 for you!
Au contraire - those of us born in the 1950s realise that DAB is rubbish and listen to our digital radio on our cable/satellite TV or the Internet.Mind you if you were born in the fifties you probably dont know what DAB or an I-Pod is so.....its Radio 4 for you!
I admit I don't have an i-Pod yet - but the main reason is that I don't feel like I have the time to spend downlaoding all those tracks I copied onto cassettes 30 odd years ago. Life is too short.
I fall between Radio 1 and 2 at the moment. Listen to Chris Moyles but precious little else and I'm not really into most of the music played on Radio 2. If they could reunite Mark and Lard and ditch Steve Wright I think I could be persuaded to move full-time. Radio 1 is so tedious with the playlist that I tend to listen to Radio 5 during the day.
Radio 2 has always been bizarre, most of is is (or was) alright, but at odd points throughout the day they would change to utterly boring ste. I'm looking at you Vine, and whoever that coma-inducing arse was that always came on at 7pm. Now that they've got rid of Radcliffe and Maconie it just isn't worth a damn anymore.
wolves & Symbolica, just to repeat something said already, Radcliffe & Maconie on Radio 6, 1-4pm weekdays. Its not as mad as M&L stuff like Lard's Animal Sanctuary, Classic Cuts or It's a Mystery, but the News Just In is good, and they do have random jokes that they go with for a week or so (Mumford & Son impressions, Guess my weight in tiny hats... )

I'll give them a go ajprice said:

I'm sure R & M are just as excellent on 6Music as they were on Radio 2, but the problem is that they are now on in the day time. I cannot have a radio on at work in the day as I work in an office. Then you have to get into the hassle of "listening again" on iPlayer. The simple fact is that I (and I'm sure the vast majority of people) don't have computers dotted around my house allowing me to do this. I used to enjoy listening to Stuart and Mark in the evening, usually in the kitchen whilst cooking, eating, washing up and then sitting down in the lounge etc, not sitting next to my computer upstairs in the spare bedroom!
Or am I being a techno numpty and there is a simple way around this (apart from moving the PC)??

There is indeed:Laptop - take it in the kitchen as I do
DAB Radio - not expensive
and dont forget.. on your TV! You can get 6 Music + all the other radio channels on your TV (now everyone is supposed to have switched to digital)
Dear Marvindodgers,

I'm not sure if this is simple but I bought a Cowon D2 music player which has a DAB in it too. Set the alarm function to record DAB at a set time. Leave device in a location where it can receive and listen later. Max rec. time is 2hrs but 'tis better than nowt,Or am I being a techno numpty and there is a simple way around this (apart from moving the PC)??

aah! Thank You! I knew there was a Cowon that had DAB built in! For me its a bit of Moyles, most of Zane Lowe and 6 Music rest of the time, with Sunday being the best as already mentioned above. regards,

I guess the laptop idea is the way forward as it is the iPlayer capability I'm interested in for listening back to Radcliffe & Maconie. Unfortunately iPlayer is not licensed to Sky as it is with Virgin so I can't use the Sky box in the lounge. DAB reception in my house is virtually zero (only room in the house with any reception is the bathroom?)Laptop - take it in the kitchen as I do

Thanks for the suggestions all.
Don't know if my age is relevant, I'm 29.
I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a radio station for me. Don't like most DJ's/presenters, don't like news on the radio, don't like advert.
So I just make my own radio station. Spotify from my phone straight to the head unit.
Job done.

Dear Digger,
The D2 is an old model, they regularly appear 2nd hand on *bay where I got mine, not cheap as they are still very popular. I expect there are newer and other manufacturers which do the same though.
If you can start/stop the recording manually there's a cheap Philips jobbie which is almost as good,

I tend to use mine in the car, parking is fairly secure. Record the show. Hour commute home listen to 1st half (hate Moyles). Hour commute next morning listen to 2nd (not keen on Mills) The D2 is an old model, they regularly appear 2nd hand on *bay where I got mine, not cheap as they are still very popular. When it comes to radio stations, it has to be R4 for me.
It's not that I dislike popular music, it's the music station DJs which I loathe. If their humour isn't desultory (Moyles), they just love the sound of their voice too much (Wogan), or I can't stand theirs (Zane).
Just play the music, don't tell me about your life story.

Another vote for 6music for, er, music - and R4 for everything else.
Still miss the Phill Jupitus breakfast show on 6music; R&M have settled in quickly but wish they'd bring back Noddy as a regular. Aside from the specialist shows Guy Garvey's finest hour, Jarvis Cocker, Huey Morgan & Marc Riley definitely worth checking out; though I mostly listen again.

For me it's Chris Evans on R2 for the first part of the day, then at 0930 tine to DAB Absolute 80's with maybe a splash of Absolute 90's if I fancy a change. R2 durring the day is becoming hard work, I like J Vine but end up either crying like a child or shouting at the radio in anger depending on what the discussion is, not good entertainment really when you think about it.
