One of the vids I watched mentioned the true lies thing, I was expecting it to be a big thing, I watched it, and it was nothing, AhNold is a huge fella who could be a threat, she blasts him. A lot of the stuff is really nothing, but people like to pick pepper out of st.

We're not talking about high art here, we've ended up in this weird place where kid/young adult popcorn movies have become the de-facto mainstream adult movies of our time. Compare the top 10 grossing movies from any year in the 70s/80s with now, can you imagine anything remotely like Rain Man, Terms of Endearment, Kramer vs Kramer etc troubling the top these days? Not a chance. Once upon a time something like Widows would have probably been top 5 at the end of the year, it came in at 71 last year.
And how exactly is this measured? Does it take into account inflation and how many people now live on the planet? I very much doubt it. Cinemas are deserted these days compared to 30/40 years ago never mind earlier than that.

Cinema admissions have been on an upward trend since they fell of a cliff in the 80s. Last year was the highest total admissions since 1970. Yes population is higher, but considering the change in the home TV market, Internet, ease of piracy and dramatically reduced theatrical window I think that's pretty darn impressive.

Yeah the landscape has changed, there is far more for cinema to compete wit now, also the way the big studios want to make their money has changed, they all wanted tentpole films a few years ago, then they all desperately wanted shared universes. It's always cart before horse, they see what makes money and copy it without any insight as to why it makes money, good entertainment/films make money.

I might have to start reviewing review reviewers...

scratchchin

I'll start with reviewing those that reviewed the reviewers of Inception.

A review within a review within a review?

I'm off to see it this evening. I'll report back the next time I get to the forum

My thanks to those of you who have successfully reviewed the film, plot points etc, but kept the entire thing spoiler free.

Same here, iSense 2D at the MKONE Odeon (sat in the Gallery, mmmmm nachos!). Have zero expectations having watched one trailer once (a policy I now have for all films I wish to see) and a quick glance in this thread. Will report back when I am done

I'm doing this now. I was 100% avoiding anything for any film but frankly it was too much like hard work. The first trailer for a film is usually reasonably light on detail so is good as a quick preview to check I might be interested.

I've only watched the short initial End Game trailer and I'm planning to stick to that, soooo tempting to watch the latest one but I'm holding strong!

To be fair, the Marvel trailers have all been pretty good at not giving the game away too much. They even go to the trouble of filming alternate scenes for the trailers to throw people off a bit.

In isolation and out of context, yes they're fine, but the CM trailers show some of the last shots of the film so if you've remembered them from the trailer, you know that a certain things must happen in the film to get to that point that you've already seen in the trailer.

I just remembered, thanks to the above chat.
I start through the start if CM twice, as mentioned. I saw two Shazam! trailers. I already want to see this, the first trailer, it was OK, good enough. THe trailer in front of CM in the normal screen was excellent! Showed me some stuff that made the film look amazing and made me ant to see it even more. It did make me wonder why one CM got the 'meh' trailer and one got the awesome one.

edit
these guys are usually accurate. biggrin
spoilers, obviously

Ok back. It’s was ok, easy way to slide through two hours. Entirely predictable but no less enjoyable for it. Script was great but delivery was a bit dry in places but well acted in others. Would watch it over Iron Man 2,3, Hulk films and over most the DC stuff
