Car SOS - how good are their restorations?
Discussion
Citroen SM tomorrow, really looking forward to it, has to be a horrendous money pit between the rust and the hydraulic brakes and suspension systems. Don’t get me started on hydraulic suspension systems, the CL 500 I had was a nightmare to get anyone to look at it when it broke down, boo-hoo
Citroen just looks superbe though, way ahead of its time

Fabulous machine, there was a rotten one on B&C recently.
The owner and his wife seemed a little strange, almost forced?
Great work by Ric wood, looking for stuff that would fit from other manufacturers to get the engine up and running.
Idea for a spin off prog: Ric Wood, his garage and his cars.
So much nice looking stuff in (and outside) the place.

Yes very good last night, agree the two owners acted a bit strange, like he knew all along? Well deserved though he deserved a bit of luck.
Fascinating watching the engine being rebuilt to better than new using better parts, yup, good idea to have a programme on Rick’s business.
Thought explanation of how the suspension system works was excellent.
Surprised the suspension system did not need work other than new hoses, think they were lucky.
Reveal OK but not sure owner did not realise what was going on.

Was looking forward to this one and it didn't disappoint, it looked fabulous in the end.
An SM was probably the car that got me interested in cars.
My dad couldn't get a Viva delivered by Christmas (his first car), and liked the look of the new GS so ordered one at from the Citroen stand at the 1972 Motor Show. Probably the reason they let a six year old me sit in the SM on the stand.
It blew my tiny mind!
Maybe one day, if prices don't go too overboard.

The car wasn’t my cuppa tea. But it was a great episode.
A lot went into that build.
And a very deserving owner.
Tim seams to have calmed down a bit, he’s a clever bloke and doesn’t need to act the fool.
The Pop is now with a friend of mine to have all the issues with it sorted out.A lot went into that build.

In terms of things like the screen/wiring/shifter etc, just sounds like attention to detail that you sort out on any heavily customised car after a few hundred miles of shakedown, bit of a shame they don't do it as part of the show but inevitable to some extent I suppose.
As for the steering/suspension I'll be honest I've seen similar if not worse issues on a heavily customised American car that cost 5 times as much to build. It's what comes from a mechanic without enough engineering knowledge attaching a load of disparate bolt on upgrades without really understanding what they're doing or what to check for after its done.
To be fair for the rest of the work done 26k doesn't seem terrible value

Yes, agreed, wouldn’t surprise me, as he is a petrolhead, if he read what is said about him on here.
Program is much better without the silly sections, when he describes how something works like the suspension on the SM he makes a good job of explaining it to people who may not have a mechanical knowledge.
