Stellan Skarsgard's character in Girl with the dragon tattoo was pretty nasty. Friendly and reasonable all the way through the film, until you realise who he is. - He's a devoted sexual killer who's killed in so many horrible ways for his own enjoyment. He's heard all the pleas, explains his methods, shows off all his apparatus and so if you're trapped in his basement, you know you're in for an unbelievably painful death as he hasn't a shred of mercy.
Another shout to the character of O'brien in George Orwells 1984. I found him unsettling in the book, and was done justice in the film by Richard Burton. An oppressive outlook for an alternate future, where all enjoyment in life is eradicated by the world governments, purely to preserve and increase it's power, and no one even seems to care, they support it.
