Very slow and it deviates too far from the source, as many of them do, as though modern writers think they know better. Would be nice to watch a faithful interpretation one day.

The slow pacing is not adding to the drama. It's just slow.

Was really looking forward to this and trying my best with it but it's trying my patience. Missus allegro actually had me turn over to check the telly wasn't knackered with the overegged green filter

Episode 2 was a significant improvement over the first, although I'm really not convinced about the dual timeline (or flash-forwards, depending on how you think of it).

The sets seemed a little more believable in this episode as well, although I'm sure I spied some uPVC double glazed windows on one house.

The beach scene was fairly well done too.

Overall, it was an improvement although I do think that with the amount of time they're spent world-building it feels like episode 2 of 6 rather than 2 of 3. With next week being the final episode, it'll be over before it's started.

I agree it was marginally better this week but they have been because I was trying to mentally disconnect this and the original tale.

I like the tripod design but much of the fx are ropey.
It's also pretty inconsistantly approached. One minute no tripod, then in the distance then on the beach. One minute no damage is done, the next they are killing them. And shelling the tripod on the beach and only hitting it and none of the crowd?

And by god it's slow.

can we please just turn licence fee to a subscription to the bbc now - so i can cancel immediatley - IMHO very very very few drama's out of the beeb can match anything with the big streamers.

they should become a provider of 1 channel, plus a news channel, and then independant quality programming that they sell to the big streamers, that would make them tighten up and focus.
all IMHO btw.

What a steaming turd of a program.

Give me the 1950's film or the book anyday.
Or the album, this used to accompany me on long drives.

Mine still does!

I just hope that when I listen to it in the future, it doesn't trigger mental images of this BBC drivel ...

Only one more episode to go.

It is very slow but will see it through.

I thought it was dire. Too much 21st BBC box-ticking with Demelza being feisty, unmarried, pregnant and still saving the day

Im impressed that hopeless george pushed that old boy all the way from woking to the coast in his wheelchair contraption.
Seemed to forget all about him when they went indoors. Unless something happened while I nodded off.
rubbish.

I’ve no idea what the black population of England would have been about the turn of the 20th century, but pretty small I would imagine. So of all the children suddenly orphaned after the attack on the beach, what are the chances of George and co. finding a black one to rescue? The shoehorning in of things like this really annoy me.

Honestly, I just don't get the negativity at all-I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far-with the possible exception of;

This stuck out like a saw thumb to me too for exactly the same reasons.

I don't care if it's a bit rubbish, Eleanor Thompson makes up for it! Flame haired temptress. Yum yum.

Wasn't produced by BBC.

I hear aliens were much more common in Victorian England than they are today.

Except it's Tomlinson and I'm pretty sure she's blonde. It's all dyed I think. Maybe they thought no one would recognise her if she wasn't Demelza.
Not unpleasant to look at mind I grant you.

well I'm going against a lot on here but I really am enjoying it. I like the bleakness and unknown threat. I don't find the 'forward' thinking (shock horror) unmarred pregnant woman or possible token gay any problem and the story keeps moving on.

Great special effects. OK not £100 million blockbuster stuff but for the small screen it's fine.

Just nice not to see another American import and refreshing to not see singing, dancing, cooking, quiz or antiques crap that is filling the screen these days.
