Scanners (1981) The David Cronenberg Horror that I was too young for at the time, free on Prime.
A young man with mental problems, living as a bum, is found by a doctor and given a drug that removes the overwhelming voices in his head. The doctor goes on to explain that he is one of 237 known "Scanners" - telepathic humans - and that he wants him to infiltrate an organisation of evil Scanners. A good/evil thriller ensues. Dated, unsurprisingly, but 7/10
Great film. As you say dated, but still worth a watch. That late 70s to late 80s period was a great time for horror/ sci-fi themed movies. Love the use of practical effects too, not a big fan of CGI as it’s often used so poorly. Yes, the effects weren't hyper realistic but they got the point across. Quick shockingly, the first one.Journeyman *2017*
"Paddy Considine and Jodie Whittaker.. Boxer Matty Burton suffers a serious head injury during a fight, which has an impact on his marriage, his family and his whole life over time... "
Watched it earlier on DVD. Excellent film, a good solid 9/10, highly recommended! The room gets a bit dusty at times ..

Sure I seen this on a flight a few years ago. Does it have a scene with a washing machine? If so I agree good film "Paddy Considine and Jodie Whittaker.. Not sure if this is more appropriate in the Netflix thread or this one.
There will be blood
Passed me by on it's release despite being a Daniel Day Lewis fan.
Enjoyed it although I don't think I understood Daniel's motivation for his descent into madness.
It was the first film in a while that has been good enough to stop me picking up my phone midway through.

Pride (2014)
The true(ish) story of a bunch of gay and lesbian activists fund raising for striking South Wales miners during the 1984 NUM strike.
It was on one of the BBC's late night Gay Pride nights. I found it oddly enjoyable, with some decent performances, but some dreadful Welsh accents by English actors. It's at odds with the type of film I'd actively look for but I was at a loose end and found it on the TV guide and decided to give it a whirl. Glad I did and it was quite sad reading the toll HIV/AIDS took on the real life characters whose story was being told.

The Tomorrow War - newly released on Prime
It has a fairly predictable plot but it was good nonetheless. Mixture of Sci-Fi, aliens and war. Alongside Chris Pratt and the gloriously lovely Yvonne Strahovski (from Dexter), there's JK Simmons in a bit part but a big-enough bit part to make it worthwhile.
Cheesier than a French cheese shop full of French cheese salesman. Good Lord. It has a fairly predictable plot but it was good nonetheless. Mixture of Sci-Fi, aliens and war. And so many things that make no sense? Or things that come from other movies? Did I mention the cheese?
And the ending, what the hell? It’s ends, done and dusted, big emotional moment, disaster averted. And then there’s another hour of Alien but in Russia instead of space. Truly bizarre.
It’s not a bad movie but it’s also a terrible movie. I guess it takes itself too seriously but also knows what it is. Odd.

Daft silly nonsense, how Pratt delivers some of those lines with a straight face 5/10
Really didn’t understand his upset over his daughter dying in the future when he was going to go back in time and fix it, so obviously she then wouldn’t die.

Molly's Game
It was on BBC1 late last night so it will be on iPlayer if you want to watch it. Although I've saw it before, I still enjoyed it and worth watching if you haven't seen it before, or it's been a while.
I watched that last night from a recording, a decent enough film though I'm not usually a fan of jumping between timelines. Masterminds
Recently appeared on Now TV movies so probably Sky too?
It's not a great film but it's not terrible. It has Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis and is 'based on true events' of one of the largest robberies in US history.
It has some funny moments, some good hair and some less funny moments.

I was channel hopping and caught most of this, and really enjoyed it. I even recommended it to my 18yr old daughter, so it might get watched again once she's clear. The Communard songs For a Friend was written about Mark Ashton, although I don't recall it from the time. The true(ish) story of a bunch of gay and lesbian activists fund raising for striking South Wales miners during the 1984 NUM strike.

Any single part you could say 'this is fine and the logic works' but overall it was all over the place and utterly inconsistent - they ended up with probably the most broken time travel logic ever put on screen. And that's before you consider any other plot holes/stupidity.
Was entertaining enough though to watch once.

A couple of recommendations for the older film buff
The Hill. 1965, Directed by Sidney Lumet and stars a host of British actors:
Set in a WW2 military prison. Its monochrome filming is sublime and its candid script is a reminder of an eloquence sadly missing in modern film making.
Room At The Top 1959 starring Lawrence Harvey, Donald Houston and Simone Signoret.
Fabulous cast, gritty sets and stuffed with post war tensions on the social class divides of the time.
Tragically both Ian Hendry and Lawrence Harvey died long before their time.
