I think they should have made James Bond a rank in the secret service. The top bloke became James Bond for a while.

I really can't see Idris Elba as Bond. Don't get me wrong I really like him in Luther and he was even fairly watchable when he did a show about cars but Bond's looks are described in some of the books and Idris doesn't really fit these descriptions (as looking like Hoagy Carmichael). That's not me being anti-PC, that's him not fitting the descriptions the original author described.

If people are so hung up on Elba playing a Bond role and want it to happen, wouldn't it be fairly easy to kill Bond off and assign Idris Elba a different "double o" number and have him take off from where Bond left. That way you could still have the same set up, gadgets, Q/M/Moneypenny etc etc
The only reason I can't see Elba playing Bond is that he's too old.

Daniel Craig is 50 and has one more film in him (some might say he should have stopped at Spectre)

Elba is 46 now so would realistically only be able to do one film.

They need to pass it to someone who is 40 maximum, who can do a few films.

Bond has changed way beyond what the author intended anyway, way back with Moore. British and good looking is about the only requirements.

well, this might happen. The 'reboot' in Casino Royle sort of made Bond a real person, but now they've come to the Dr Who bit of changing actors, what do they do? Reboot again? Ignore the continuity altogether (likie most of the old ones), or opt for the in story change. This is what I'm most interested in.

Forgive me, I am not a big Bond fan. What was the reboot in Casino Royale? Do you mean Bond becoming blonde and muscly?

Up till the 2006 Casino Royle, all the BOnd films the same sort of continuity, give-or-take ignoring the actor change, which was never really acknowledged (too much). Bond was an established spy, he got on with the job. 2006 CR rejigged Bond to a brand new spy, just joined MI6 (and then all of a sudden becoming too old) he had a definite shelf life, and home. All of Craig's films link to one another more tightly than before. And now he has come to the end of his spy-life.

It was a reboot because he had to make 3 kills to get his 00 status, they had 1 we didn't see, the guy in the toilets and the mole. All in the B&W film intro sequence.

Ps. Craig's Bond isn't blonde.

He’s far too old and Black. Bond is not black, bisexual, trans or a lady boy. FFS!

Exactly on age of 40. 38-40. Too young no good. The fact this selfie exists is 100% proof Idris ain’t Bond. No way would they leak it.

It's Idris' selfie, don't think it needs to be leaked, he just did it. I'm of two minds, either he's having a chuckle, because he knows he could be a front runner and doesn't want it...or he's testing the water.

I’d say it’s practically a given, unless the current social climate changes dramatically, that Bond will be played by a woman in the fullness of time.

Hopefully a modern caring sharing woman. Who can re-educate Spectre into concentrating their activities into stopping global warming.
