The Thing (1982 version)

Noticed it was on The Horror Channel the other night - remember it being a classic, and it is still a very good film. It actually finished later than I wanted, but it's also on Amazon Prime so finished it off last night.

It's aged well - obviously the effects are almost 40 years old, but still not bad at all.

8/10
One of my all-time fave horror / sci-fi films. The special effects have aged very well all things considered, the fact that everything was actually built and animated rather than CGI
Have you seen The Thing (2011)? It being the prequel to the 1982 'The Thing'. Didn't think i would like it, but was pleasantly surprised. smile
I played the trailer last night, and must admit it looked OK - although from the trailer I was concerned it might be a bit too similar to The Thing, just with different people. Pretty cheap on Amazon though, so think I'll order it.

It is a great film. I can say that now as this year was the first time I've ever managed to get past the dog perspective camera scene laugh

Oh and another +1 for End of Watch. Never heard of it before and well worth a watch.
End of Watch was disappointing. 'Is that it?' A buddy movie that ends tragically? The Thing though goes against the anything-heartily-recommended-on -PH-must-be-avoided rule and is, in fact, one of the most satisfying films ever made. As good IMO from the previous year was An American Werewolf in London - made equal by it's soundtrack.

is that the rule you just made up? Just about any film is given a hearty recommendation on here by someone.
Iconic films like the film transcend any PH recommendations. biggrin

I have to agree with you on this one. Pena's character might as well have been named "Deadmeat". Very predictable.

The title of the film gave it away for me before I had first seen it. Instantly forgettable though as far as I'm concerned, I've seen it, but that's about it.

The 1982 version is still a great film & holds up well.

On a related note, I received the Blu-ray remaster of escape from New York last week.
Christ it looks good. Despite having seen it countless times, it was great to see in hd.

It also comes with the cd soundtrack too.

Hush

Scary home invasion film on Netflix by the guy who directed Haunting of Hill House and featuring his (hot) wife, who is also in Haunting.

Quite tense and surprisingly well made and acted. Nothing overly original but it's short and sweet and for a cheapy film in one location with 5 actors in total it's really excellent.

I love this movie - theres one particular scene with a jump-scare that always gets me because I forget its coming.

The Thing (2011) is pants - as you suspected, it is just a remake of the 1982, but the makers are lucky that the 1982 film implied the events were a repeated story of what happened to the Norwegian crew, so they get away with just reshooting it, but this time with very bad CGI, and characters that aren't as cool as Kurt Russell. In fact, the only redeeming bit is the little extra end credits scene that dovetails in with the start of the 1982 film.

Unsane

Admittedly I watched this towards the end of a 13hr flight, but as much as I wanted to enjoy this (Foy is great as always) it's a bit of a mess. I'm not usually one for worrying about plot holes but you could drive a bus through the ones in this.

Interesting concept but just gets too silly for its own good.

Seven.
I had always watched the start of it and never got past half way.
Really enjoyed it having sat down tonight and watched it all.
What an ending.

I watched Lopper again last night as no internet, and to be fair it was a bit deeper than I remember, but still good

Green book. Damn it's a really good film! Great story and constant laughs the whole way thru. Pretty much the entire audience started clapping at the end - been a long time since I've seen a film getting that kind of response.
10/10 from me.

Well part of it was a woman killing a tree with an axe but.

We should probably leaf it on the puns, or a passing moderator might twig what's happening and prune the thread.
