I had always watched the start of it and never got past half way.
Really enjoyed it having sat down tonight and watched it all.
What an ending.
Indeed, I think it is a cracking film and if ever I were to make a top 10 films list I'm pretty certain it would be on there.

Just watched Spotlight, the story about journalists from the Boston Globe investigate a cover up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church. I'd imagine they had no idea when they started just how big the whole thing was going to. Very well made, a great cast 9/10

Was round my sons earlier and he has given me a few blue rays to try as I have finally got a new TV to try them on. Tonight's choice is a bit limited but it is between IT, Pacific Rim, and Saving Private Ryan.

I have seen Saving Private Ryan but not the other 2 and as the new TV is a 4K Oled I guess I'm after the film that will make the most of the new TV.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs

was a bit 'Black Mirror: Wild West' but bloody brilliant with it

Opening scene does NOT set the mood for the rest of the film

Robin Hood... we had the misfortune of seeing this complete steaming pile of putrid ste. Wow I really can't emphasise how poor this film is (for reference I enjoyed Prince of Persea and Helsing!)

Pretty much the same thoughts I have for Pacific Rim. Gave up, going too bed.

Journey's End. WW1 drama just released on Netflix.

A greater evocation of the hopelessness and futility of war, I have never seen. Genuinely moving.

The end credits are just rolling for Falling Down. Haven't seen this in a while and have forgotten just what a genius film this is. Still relevant and perfectly encapsulates the frustrations of so many aspects of modern life that can lead to poor mental health.

I found the character strangely hard to empathise with. Rather than cheering as he stuck it to the man, it just seemed that he was a mental person blowing up popular hate targets.

It was a film I felt I should have liked but never geled with.

leave No Trace

A film about a father and daughter living undetected in the National Park forests surrounding Oregon.

It's a very interesting film but didn't quite hold my attention enough so I stopped it with half an hour to go. Maybe that was a mistake as I have just read the tomatoes review and the critics gave it 100%! Probably best films of 2018!

I better go back to it this evening and see what I missed .

Anyone seen it?

?/10

Good film and I sort of agree, he hasn't just lost it by the end, he has completely flipped.

We can all empathise with the idea of the bloke having a bad day and starting rage against the world..

But he just goes insane..

Yes, we watched it last week. Quite slow and very little dialogue but well acted and an interesting tale. Not my best film of 2018 though. 6.5/10

Just musing out loud... I wonder whether 'us Brits' are sympathetic to a point, but then fall away as he enters 'peak frustration' because of the scale of firearms involvement?
We are, of course, used to seeing baddies with guns, even in British films/TV. He's just a normal guy - like us - but we know that if we had that kind of bad day, we'd have no scope to create carnage on that scale as there's no chance of getting our hands on decent firearms. So our 'falling down' would peak at throwing doughnuts around in Greggs or pushing over some cycle-nazi in a park hehe

Whether or not you enjoy Pacific Rim is rather predicated on whether you find giant mecha cool or not. If you don't then you're unlikely to like it.

The Pitch Meeting for it is quite amusing and apt.

If you want a slightly different take on the angry man genre, I recommend the slightly disturbing but highly entertaining Rampage by Uwe Bill. Think Falling Down meets Natural Born Killers.

I have a similar view. I developed a desire to watch "Falling Down" a while ago, based on a vague memory of it being shown a few years ago and being quite good. When it was shown a few times a couple of months ago I recorded it, watched as far as the point where he trashes the convenience store where he wants a can of drink (quite early on) and couldn't put up with it any longer.

I've got a similar desire to watch "All the Presidents Men", but that doesn't seem to get shown and I haven't seen a cheap DVD of it. I suspect I might be equally disappointed if it ever does show up.

Ref Falling Down,
The way the viewer's sympathy/empathy towards Douglas' character switches part-way through the film is what makes it such a good movie. One moment you're nodding your head, the next his actions are making you feel a little uncomfortable and finally you just want the nutcase locking up for the safety of the public and his daughter.
All that within a couple of hours of movie time. thumbup
