Yep! I was thinking GTA5.

If you ever get the chance to drive around LA for a while, it's a surreal experience. One of the shots at the end, when they find the body, reminded me of the area in the game way outside the city and you can see the lights along the coast in the distance.
I did it the other way around, and whenever I played GTA5 got deja-vu. I knew where to drive, and the landmarks and roads were all where they should be, sometimes even down to a small level.
Of course, the game map and the viewable details are condensed, but as you remember the landmarks, everything seems real, and is almost a blur on reality.
Like this for example:
Watched episode 2 now and struggling to get past the feeling that's it's just basically a formulaic The Wire/The Shield clone but more dark/broody, humourless and with no likeable characters whatsoever.
Hoping it will pick up after the conclusion to EP2 but at the moment it's far from the 'must watch' TV the first season was for me.

Rockford as in Rockford Files?. Nope, colour me dense, I still don't get it.
To be honest though I wasn't paying 100% attention, it just didn't grab me.
Yeah, famous LA detective, the Columbo of the region. To be honest though I wasn't paying 100% attention, it just didn't grab me.
I too admit...erm, it's not as gripping as the first, but then it's a wholly different scenario.
Farrell...is quite watchable, as is Vaughn...the girl I'm willing to give a shot, but that 'I'm so gay no actually I'm not gay' fella is a waste of time, and utterly devoid of watchability.
The story does seem to be heading classic noir so we shall see.
