Watched DOWNSIZING on TV, starring Matt Damon.
The first half is quite involving, before getting very st and preachy.

I thought it was awful. Once they're in the "small" world the premise of the film is lost and I hated the direction it took. Ridiculously preachy as you say.

The Croods 2 Had to endure it for the sake of the kids, and the first one was dire, but number 2 actually had some laugh-out-loud jokes for the grown-ups sprinkled throughout. If you're being dragged to see it, don't despair too much. 5/10 (not 2/10 like the first one).
I liked the first one and found the second very contrived and dull but I'm only 62...

Boss Level on Prime. Frank Grillo does Groundhog Day/ Edge of Tomorrow/ John Wick unexpectedly entertainingly.

174 piano lessons out of 190 swordfights

On balance I think I liked the 2nd one more.

One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

The Space Between. It's coming-of-age film. A light comedy for great spending of evening time.

Joker

Despite the mainly positive reviews it wasn’t a film I wanted to see. But it was free on Netflix so thought I would give it a try. Was as expected. Thoroughly depressing. Joachim gave a good performance but didn’t make me like the film. 4/10

Words bubble up like soda pop

Watched this straight after Joker, which was a relief.
Light and fluffy anime about a shy Japanese boy, who lives haiku, meeting a self-conscious but bubbly girl. Much more up my street. Fairly insubstantial but sweet and the haiku were interesting. 7/10

Parasite

Finally got around to watching it. Wasn’t sure what to expect. Started fairly light heartedly but got darker as it went on. Thought it was very interesting and well made. 8/10

Just did not get on with this one, despite being a fan of all those films mentioned, particularly JW. Couldn’t understand the positive reviews on here, maybe I missed something!

Tip tip - if recording Airplane tonight using Sky, remember to "Record Series" as it is being shown in two parts.

Those movies mentioned are some of the best movies Hollywood can produce. Boss Level was only ever meant to be a 'B' movie, if you go in with a predetermined expectation of something fantastic then yes, you'll be disappointed. Frank Grillo has only ever had minor parts in A movies, so it's a pleasant surprise that he carries the entire Boss Level quite so well.

I think Groundhog Day/ Edge of Tomorrow were mentioned as it borrows certain themes The same day repeats over and over again. Bill Murray in Groundhog Day learnt the piano every day to get good, In Boss Level they did the same thing so he learnt to sword fight

I notice Green Book is on BBC2 tonight at 10pm. Not seen it before so will watch it to find out if it's as good as I'm led to believe.

If thats the one with the tag line "A working-class Italian-American bouncer becomes the driver of an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South".

Agreed. Once past the basic premise it all hangs together pretty plausibly. It rattles along. The action is well choreographed. Some decent humour, and I grew to care about the characters. 8/10
