Clarkson and co have been destroying old cars for years, including plenty of stuff that might be called enthusiasts cars - Alfas, Maseratis, Rolls Royces, Porsches, Lotus, classic Minis etc etc. So add a couple of small old French cars to that list now. There are still several hundred of each left just in this country, so not exactly that rare.

Yes, but Clarksons forte was always to do it with a interesting storey or narrative, they just turned up and drove up a muddy road, paddy shouting a lot, wrecking their cars.Cupramax said:

Well I was disgusted. As a previous 106 Rallye owner, it hurt to see them fk that one up in the name of entertainment. Not many left, even less now.
Oh dear, boo hoo, poor you. What’s it to do with you what they do with something they bought and paid for, and if it hurt you that much you poor thing, why didn’t you bother saving the one you used to own, or buy another one so the nasty man doesn’t upset you so much in future? Far as I'm concerned McGuinness especially shouldn't be allowed near a car. If they had to buy the cars with their own money he wouldn't have ragged the hell out of it.

I rather enjoyed it. It wasn't terribly original or surprising, but an interesting location, properly off the beaten track. Despite the forced blokeishness, they seem to get on pretty well, and have decent chemistry. I particularly enjoyed the fun they had with thier local passengers - Looked like a fun way to spend a day.
There's only so much anyone can do with the format after all these years.

If you posted this to check if you’re new rose tinted glasses are working, I can confirm they are. I really enjoyed it. Cars are just props, many die in less glamorous circumstances. I liked the teamwork, replacing the peurile "You're on your own" fiction that old TG had. I'm glad to see the absence of the pathetic deliberate crashing - here, the damage was ancillary to keeping all the cars moving.
As an initial doubter, I like their chemistry - far better than May shouting "Cock" and "Clarkson!" every 10 seconds, Clarkson acting like a buffoon and Hammond trying to cast puppy eyes at the camera.
I thought TGT was awful, from the peurile title to the dull end. Of the two, TG held my attention, throughout and it was good to see the bond that builds between driver and car.
Could I watch TGT again? I could barely watch it once but I could watch that again, quite easily.
Of course it rehashes an old formula so it will never be sparkling or fresh, we've seen far too many "ultimate treks" to be blown away by it anymore. What it does underline is that humans are slowly trashing the planet, even in far off places.
So it gets a thumbs up from me and looking forward to the series. TGT is going to be more of the CMH Show and I can only hope they become less of a cliche.

amazed at the quarrelling that takes place in discussions about TG on here. It's a TV programme, why are you so emotionally invested in it?
I think it's hilarious. Especially when people write that they're "disgusted" as if they're actually called Michelle and weren't allowed into Asda in their pyjamas and selling their story to the South London Press.thiscocks said:
Utter contrived bks. Would be marginally better if they smashed up brand new cars but then I guess the general public wouldn't understand that.
Very slow on the uptake or very stupid? I enjoyed it. And what surprised me most was that the wife watched it and declared it to be the "best thing I've seen this Christmas" she is a long way from being a petrol head and her usual viewing is very soapy. Not sure what that proves but there you have it.
