I rather enjoyed it. It wasn't terribly original or surprising, but an interesting location, properly off the beaten track. Despite the forced blokeishness, they seem to get on pretty well, and have decent chemistry. I particularly enjoyed the fun they had with thier local passengers - Looked like a fun way to spend a day.

There's only so much anyone can do with the format after all these years.
A fair assessment.

They seemed to tone down the silliness, and the antics that had come close to bullying, probably after the complaints and it was a decent road trip in a good location.

I can't help think places like PH could come up with more interesting vehicles and places to visit.
Make that a thread, 'Pistonheads do TG/TGT specials'

1. Where do you go
2. What are the vehicles.
3. What are the events/twists/story add ons.
The presenters are the problem, not the cars or locations.

Nobody is going to live up to the other 3 though, they had 20 years of friendship to fall back on and all came from the same background with the same love of cars.

No matter who they put in their place, it won't seem as natural and they won't have the same humour.

They get a lot more viewers than the last team.

I really like the current TG team, especially Paddy who is the charismatic main man the series has lacked since Clarkson departed. Chris is great now he's established himself and toned down the angry small man persona and Freddie fits the fearless have a go hero role just fine.

Is that a fact? Not seen the viewing figure graphs.

People need to go back and rewatch CMH all those years ago and stop comparing a new team, thrown in at the deep end, with what CMH grew into which, IMHO was largely a horrific cliche.

About 4.5m vs 3m for the last team vs more than 6m for CMH

It could be entirely put together by PHers.

Location, crew, cars, script the lot.

They would still moan about it.

Ah that makes sense and ties in with my preferences.

CMH did some extremely watchable TV IMO.
The current guys are ok, it’s pretty much mainstream family entertainment but not as good as the best CMH stuff.
The Chris Evans era was poor from what I saw of it, and I didn’t really watch that much. He was like an over excited child, I just didn’t get that Rory chap and Sabine just shrieked all the time.

Bit worried about the drop in viewing/interest here (shameless plug coming)...

There's a really good bike cafe near me, run by a group of very decent guys and they've got a short series about bike building, car stuff, etc which is due to go out following TG. Not sure if I can name it here in case of plugging/advertising rules?

Really hope it takes off for them but I'm beginning to get the impression they'd have been better off putting it out on Youtube instead. Time will tell.

The last lot came up with the odd gem, 24hr race in a BMW diesel. More stuff like this please instead of rehashed cliches.

The same was said about the Chris Evans reboot. The new team have the luxury of knowing what a successful Top Gear looks like. Early CMH had the name from a cancelled show, and an untested format.

No idea but I would assume so. British Top Gear was very successful abroad. I was comparing to CMH Top Gear rather than TGT as Amazon don't release viewing figures.

Was OK I guess.

Mind you, compare it to Goblin Worst Garage and it was fantastic!

I thought it was OK, however CHM would not have abandoned the Renault
