Whereas I thought it hit the mark just right. It was silly and treats the whole thing a silly - just as it should be.

Good fun but a poor Thor film, won't watch again.

Thor is such an interesting character in the comics as he was in Avengers and Thor. But not he's a comedian just like Starlord and Dr Strange and anyone else they can make funny. Appreciate it sells films to the masses so I just enjoy them for what they are.

I'd actually prefer it if they allowed some characters or films to go 'genre', there are enough releases to allow a bit of creative freedom in my opinion, especially with the D+ series too.

As impressive as the buildup to Thanos was you'd barely know many of the films were actually made by different directors (Ant Man and GotG aside, maybe). They've certainly loosened the shackles a bit since, Dr Strange leaning into horror (although with the loss of a director who presumably was taking it further) and Thor now very comedic.

To be fair, much of the Thor ‘mythos’ brought over from comic book stories is so ridiculous you need to make it pretty comedic to make it work on screen

Comic books are not meant to be taken seriously. This is why making it silly works.
It’s Thor. Viking version of Hulk. Big Bang smash, a splash of dash and job jobbed.

It definitely works for the masses

If you read my post before you'd see I get why they have changed it into something more appealing to the masses and I enjoy it for what it is. I don't know any 40 year olds who read comics or any chubbies who do. Marvel are very clever and when they think the audience wouldn't like the comic character they inject a load of humour. Hats off to them they are coining it in.

Didn't think I was I enjoyed it? It was more the 'vikinh version of Hulk' was wrong on so many levels.

Glad we both enjoyed the film, let's not ruin this thread.

A very enjoyable romp, lots of fun. Agree with the posters saying it's pretty far removed from the source material. After the second Thor flopped it was probably wise to make it more of a 'funny' one. Guessing Hemsworth is in it for the long haul.

The second Thor took itself too seriously, The third film worked well, they obviously saw that the humour worked in that film so doubled down for the 4th, for me it missed the mark, the 'humour' was rammed home so hard it just didn't work.

So far in the story Thor has suffered way more than any other character. Parents dead, brother dead, best friend dead, home planet destroyed, they could go really dark with it, have a Thor lost in depression, unable to find his way in life, this massively powerful being that's just angry with the world. Instead he gets to do the splits, ride around on screaming goats, and get into a love triangle with an axe & a hammer.

I liked the references to other small MCU things, like having Darryl as a character.

I also liked Christian Bale's performance, but overall I did think Taika Waititi had taken it a little too far. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it felt a bit like a funny film set in the Marvel universe, rather than a part of a wider story.

Bugger frown In my defence I'm not 40 but (these days) I am 'chubby' and nearing 60

That’s a hell of a lineup being confirmed.

Captain America 4 New World Order
Fantastic Four
BlaDe
Thunderbolts
Avengers 5 Kang Dynasty
Avengers 6 Secret Wars

A lot of spin off TV series though, I wonder how skippable some of those will be

ETA: Trailers were shown for Quantamania and Guardians 3 were shown in the Hall so assume we’ll see those too soon.

I think Wandavision / Dr Strange 3 is a good example. You get a lot more of the backstory from Wandavision but it's not critical to enjoying the film, i.e. you wouldnt be completely lost. Reading a 3 minute summary of the TV series would be enough.

Falcon and Winter Soldier sets up the new Captain America, but when he crops up again it won't be a surprise as he was handed the shield at the end of End Game. Again, backstory without being critical.

New She-Hulk trailer.
https://youtu.be/u7JsKhI2An0

Looks like it’s going to break the forth wall by acknowledging the audience. I remember that being a big part of the She-Hulk in the ‘80s, but I thought they might drop it because it’s become Deadpool’s USP.

I went to see love and thunder last Tuesday and quite enjoyed it.

I did think it had a few massive plot hole that have knock on effects through the MCU as a whole.
For example why didn’t they use the magic wish thingy after the snap?
No need for all the time travel stuff. Thor just goes there, wishes everything back to normal, the end…

As the MCU grows more convoluted it’s getting more difficult to keep any sort of believable (within the framework of a comic book movie) continuity, whilst delivering high enough stakes to keep things interesting.

The more recent movies have been okay, but only that. The slate announced yesterday hasn’t really got my interest at all. A couple of avenger movies, but the only original members will be Hulk and Thor.

The Wakanda forever trailer had me rolling my eyes as did the she hulk one. Instantly better at everything and stronger than the hulk… of course.

The only faint glimmer of hope being the thunderbolts and daredevil stuff.

Fantastic four could be good, but it depends on the casting..
I guess…

Werewolf by Night, a short, B&W TV film. Very good, left me wanting more. Also introduces another Marvel character.
