I am frankly amazed that there are people on here still defending JC and blaming the BBC.

I will admit I signed the petition and I know wish I hadnt. It was a mistake.

There is not a single situation where you get away with verbally abusing and physically assaulting a co worker, especially so of you are effectively on a final warning.

It's sad that TG as we know it is over
That makes 2 of us hehe
I didn't sign it as wanted to find out what actually happened first. Police are investigating now according to morning paper.
Me Neither, I do like JC but wanted to know the facts first. frown
In this day and age you can't hit someone in the workplace and expect it to be brushed off lightly.

This.

Piers is once again trying to get a piece of the limelight he so desperately craves, he's a of the highest order. It speaks volumes that he is having to write for the sttiest news outlet in country. If he actually gave toss about Clarkson he wouldn't be writing such fking drivel and trying get his fat, ugly, st eating face back into the public again.

"Huuurrr duuurrr I worked in Hollywood, I replaced Larry King huuurrr duuuurrr" - fk off back over there then you .

Sorry, but I really, really, really fking despise Piers Morgan.

Oh, without a doubt there were some digs and point-scoring in there. But there was also some good advice too.

Can I just make something perfectly clear, I don't like Piers Morgan either. The mans a cretin, but some of what he's written seems perfectly placed imo.

In the unlikely event of the BBC seeing sense, an ideal replacement who would more than adequately fill Clarkson's shoes would be Ed China. To see the even taller than Clarkson China alongside miniscule Hammond would surely bring a smile or two.

Plus, Ed China's in depth knowledge and expertise of things automotive combined with his fine presentation style in front of the camera would be a truly "what's not to like" scenario allowing the show to go on even if it is not as we knew it .... which could be a refreshing change for the better bonus.

There again, if it's decided to bury Top Gear permanently or for a few years as happened in the past ... who knows. I for one will miss the show if it is permanently off our screens ... frown
Edd China knows the grand scheme of fk all unless he's told it 5 minutes before camera time. Most of the 'work' carried out on Wheeler Dealers is performed by two other mechanics, and he's filmed doing the take it out of place and put it into place shots.

I've been at a WD filming and a friend of mine used to have a business with him.

He's a .

True, but who's being punished by sacking JC?
JC sure as hell isn't, he's more than likely to just get a fat pay rise as he buggers off somewhere else.
Other people may well lose their jobs too, what ever replaces the current format TG isn't going to get the budget that TG currently has, because they know it won't make the sort of money TG with JC makes. So it probably won't support such a big crew, are the beeb going to keep those people on? No, there will be less work, so less jobs.
I've no idea what the beeb can do to suitably punish JC, but this isn't it.

+2 I hope the has nightmares at night about the blood on his hands from that st his rag made up about British troops. He is scum of the highest order IMO. Although he is right - he does have lots of experience of being sacked from jobs. And being despised.

There's no denying that the article exists only to self aggrandise and rub Clarkson's face in his sacking. The advice is duplicitous to say the least, plus if it was heartfelt it would been delivered privately.

Says foul mouthed you.

Wow! He doesn't perform all those numerous tasks on the cars alone and unaided without help. Not only that, needs TV direction to ensure good camera footage takes. Who knew ? rolleyes

I have also been at the filming of TV auto shows and my direct experience contrasts with your view and some of the others here. Even if Ed China in reality does not know one end of a spanner from another he has a good presentation style when in front of the camera. That above all is what TV direction is all about.

I do agree with bbcs stance but it's not a typical working environment.

Punch ups in the dressing rooms at sports clubs happen all the time.

They are dealt with there and then normally without sackings.

Just look at fergie and Brian c. They were known for it.

It's not really about punishment. In the same way that fining premiership footballers a few quid is ultimately pointless, it's about the BBC needing to be seen to not condone that sort of behaviour. It isn't acceptable and whether or not he goes onto greater things, the BBC can't allow it in their organisation.

It's also a somewhat broken rule in media that nobody is irreplaceable and Talent really can't start calling the shots like that.

Yes, it's a pity for all of us who enjoy Top Gear and a shame for the licence payer generally, but there is quite literally only one person you should blame for the situation.
