I'd imagine that acting experience factored into the ability to land the job at all. You don't know how many award winning or highly paid actors auditioned or were considered for the role. I'd guess the producers probably want the best they can get for the show..
Producers like to work with people they've worked with in the past, the reliability/timework space thing. It helped they've worked together.gadgetmac said:
It's about time Bond was played by a gay man. The hetero thing in Bond films is so 1980's.
Perhaps the scene in Skyfall passed you by then?Silva (the baddie) is fondling Bond's leg to try and freak him out, and Bond calmly asks him if he thinks this is the first time a man has done that. He then stops, realising that Bond is secure in his sexuality and his attempt has failed.
Considering that Bond has always shagged anything that moves, it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to conceive that he might be bisexual.

For what its worth I think there are several actors who could have made a great Doctor.
If I was to name some I'm sure you would shudder.
go onIf I was to name some I'm sure you would shudder.
i dares ya
i double dares ya
Younger actors
Colin Morgan best known for playing Merlin in err Merlin I think he would be superb
Jeremy Irvine good actor with a quirkiness about him
Danny Kaluuya probably best know for Skins but I liked him better in Psychoville Age wise he would fit in with a younger group being I think late 20s
Older Actors
Con O'Neill He is getting on a bit now 50 I think but I have always liked him as an actor he also has a great unusual accent to his voice Really liked him in Teslstar where he showed a manic himouress side and in all the TV shows I have seen him in he never fails to give a good performance
Laurence Fox think he's around 40 ish now I think he’s an accomplished actor and would bring a great deal to the role – probably too well known. He also has that odd frame about him
Paterson Joseph I liked him in Law And Order and I thought he had a good comedic touch in an old programme called Hyperdrive It’s a shame but again time is against him a few years back it looked like he might get it too
Rupert Penry-Jones would have made a great Doctor 10 years ago age again you see
I also liked Wil Johnson best known for playing Spencer Jordan in Waking The Dead right from the start and he can really do angry and betrayed. Again age wise over 50 so time against him
Women wise I think Michelle Ryan would do a good job though she has been in it before opposite David Tennant
Unfortunately there is only one woman amongst them and ethnic wise 3 black

Bisexual?!?! Pah! He needs to make the leap past that (and past sultry seductive women) and into full-on male-on-male only action. No half-way fudges to appease the heteros.
Whatever floats your boat. I'm sure there are plenty of films like that to appeal to your tastes. Perhaps Brokeback Mountain?(Yes, I do realise you are being obtuse and facetious).

Sorry he isn't but Patterson Joseph and Wil Johnson are in there though and around same age group.
Oh, they are interesting choices. I have to say I am only really familiar with Wil Johnson, having only seen Patterson in Green Wing I think, but I see where you are coming from. ClockworkCupcake said:

Anyway, bringing the subject back on topic (Bond fans, go and start your own thread), a trailer for the Christmas special has been released:

He went to Public School, so it seemed inevitable...Silva (the baddie) is fondling Bond's leg to try and freak him out, and Bond calmly asks him if he thinks this is the first time a man has done that. He then stops, realising that Bond is secure in his sexuality and his attempt has failed.

On topic, that transformation from William Hartnell to David Bradley was very good in the trailer!

In Cardiff today doing the Who experience with the lad. General feeling amongst those there seemed to be very positive towards the new doc.
And we had lunch in the diner both Smith and Capaldi visited, the waitress clocked the boy as we walked in and reserved us the booth they filmed in. Ace.
