Nail, hammer, hit. yes

I look at the percentage increase in times of very low general inflation.

I'm away for another week & will see what arrived when I get home.

Yep, it's quite scary how all those "for another £2 per month....." add up to quite a big bill.

I opened my letter this morning, and no surprise. £4.25 increase, split out as £2 for the 'Family Bundle', £1.50 for Sports/Movies and 75p for the HD pack.

Sky's latest increase would increase my subscription from £47 to £50 per month. Which is 6.38% or about 21 times the UK inflation rate....

I rang them and secured a better deal for 6 months.

If you're a 'traditional' TV viewer who simply wants to watch TV at home, Sky with all its gimmicks is very poor value these days.

My Sky package will go over £40 with this increase - choices have been limited for us as our internet speed is .5mbps but the Fire cabinet was installed 2 weeks ago down the road so I reckon anytime now we are going supafast so should I cancel Sky and get a freeview recorder and something like NowTV ? I had sky because we like History channel and discovery no movies or sports fans ...

If you install the sky service mobile app and login you should immediately see a 50% offer, I did anyway.

I'm in a similar position although my wife and I will be moving house in the next few months, we use Amazon and Netflix a fair amount and usually watch sky 1 and Atlantic for the most part so I think I'll need to look carefully at what we do. We can always cancel and start fresh with the new contract deals like we did when we moved last time or go for one of the streaming options, trouble is I'm not sure where to start looking to find out what would give us the TV we want and at a reasonable cost.

For Sky Atlantic your only options are Sky or Now TV.

Guys can anyone comment on how good the Humax offering is now? I have a Humax HDR1000S 1Tb that has been sleeping for almost 2 years, but this price hike is a reason to revive!

Does it lack HD channels (channel 5 for eg)? Guess there are no box sets or remote record? No Discovery Turbo etc?

Other than that is that all the limitations are, as, if so, that is no big deal - although may miss Wheeler Dealers telling me what they've told me twice already and then Ed just telling me what Mike told him - although he had told us that before!

or certain websites, which I will have to do for GoT

So I have canx sky today - was paying about £103/month for phone/bb/movies and sports (but excl BT sports)

they offered me a reduction to £79 for 9 months, not overly impressed so I continued

I have lined up Virgin big Kahuna instead which is cheaper at £75/month for first year if i wanted HD on sports and movies (then £115 for another 6 months) but it includes BT sports, vivid fast bb, and a second box for free. £50 install reduced to £10.

So will Sky come back again with a better offer?? (for 50% off I might stay)

When my parents moved to Virgin from sky, sky called them up after the switchover date and asked them if they wanted their old package back free of charge for 3 months in case there was something on sky that wasnt on virgin i.e. they might spend some money on a box set or PPV event.

Its not like they were going to switch back anyway as they were tied in to Virgin for 18 months but even after you switch sky are still keen to keep your lights on (well for 3 months anyway).

I can't go to Virgin as there is no coverage in my area. This obviously makes it harder to switch, the only option is BT which would only work if I could get good reception from a digital ariel.

Calls to Sky to discuss my package have been bordering on insulting - insinuating why would you ever consider leaving Sky

Good cash back deals on BT a week or so a go - 195 back in cash plus a 130 prepaid cash card if you signed up with a sim only.
I bottled due to the need for a digital ariel on the roof and in fact its 51 including line rental for everything.

I went for the VIP deal at 75, pretty much the same as the chap who posted earlier but including sports/ movies 6 months free Netflix and 100 prepaid card plus v+ box upstairs.

I just got an email from Sky -

your Sky subscription price is going up by £4.75 a month from 1 June 2016.

I'm currently paying £35.85 so something like 12.5% !!! eek

I'll call them when I get home & tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.

UPDATE:

So I just called them. Apparently I am committed to Sky until 4 September although I would dispute that I ever agreed this. Anyway the retentions man agreed to give me a credit equal to the difference between the charges between now and my end of contract date which is 4 September.

I have a diary note to call again late July (need to give them 1 months notice to quit so by 4 August) to re negotiate.

Oh the joys of Sky!

The really annoying bit for me is the fact that if i make any changes or re negotiate my package i will lose sky F1 as i am on the legacy deal, and any price increase for me is steal massively cheaper than having the sports package.

I am about £42 a month for basic + Entertainment+ or family bundle and HD. If i add movies or remove entertainment + i lose F1, and as you need the whole sports package to get F1 that's another £22 odd straight off the bat a month.

As i only have sky for TV, i have BT for phone and BB and get BT sport HD for £2pm i get Moto GP and some premier league liverpool games, but its all getting a bit silly with the multitude of subscriptions you need to watch even half the various tv shows i like.

Its the big downside to netflix and amazon tv etc, they all get exclusives.

We had exactly this setup (£42 Legacy HD), cancelled and re-joined at £25 per month for the Complete Bundle (Movies, Sport, HD), madness. Our phone/BB is through BT.

They've also confirmed that they won't be increasing our price by the usual £4 or whatever as we've only recently signed up!
