Has Evens not managed to ride that singer from Texas yet? Jeez everything he does he has to rope her along, she can't have had a song in the charts for what, 15 years?

Tonight's was better, MleB is proving very good. Evens can't act (or read a script convincingly) and any ad-libs he does fall on deaf ears. Quite why he tries to imitate clarkson I don't know?

Better than last week - but Evans is definitely the weak link, still far too shouty.

The opening on the trolley was cringeworthy - didn't even raise a smile. The SIARPC section too - I hate the top trumps format and getting the crowd to "vote". Same with getting the crowd to shout out "he's called the Stig". The only time audience interaction was funny in old TG was when Clarkson was taking the piss out of them.

Jensen button was great, as was MLB again - thought EJ was meh!
Did we watch different episodes?

I didn't catch the people shouting or the top trumps car part. Were those in the last 5 minutes? I turned off when the africa thing finished.

Was away for the first new episode but if yesterday's was anything to go by, doubt I missed much.

The cinematography and cars are all the show has going for it these days. And why was I hoping CE would crash the F1 Long Tail into something concrete! Never liked him and can't see that changing.

I know JC did something similar with the Ford GT but for some reason I just find CE borderline offensive with his look at me and what I've got attitude.

I agree with all this apart from the hospital bed skit. I found it quite funny, as I knew it was a dig at the "haters." I'm getting pretty sick of the hate comments on social media. I'm hoping it dies down once Grand Tour starts

I thought it was due to him recovering from the ride with JB. This episode was filmed before last week's was shown so I'd think that Evans thought all was rosy and unaware of the forthcoming backlash

I hated last weeks programme but this was quite a bit better, I thought the Mclaren was utterly fantastic

I thought this episode was better than the first, at about the same standard as the average Old-New Top Gear episode.

The only real irritant is Chris Evans' occasional screechy voice - it's just much less soothing than Jeremy Clarkson's lower register.

Better than last week, but got worse as it went on.

I agree with whoever posted above (can't find the post to quote now) - why was Evans driving the 675 and not CH or Sabine? And was Jenson there as a minder to make sure he didn't kill it?

If they'd stated the objective of delivering the musicians to the bar right at the start of the segment, it would have made a lot more sense. Instead it was like the start of a "....walks into a bar..." joke until right at the very end. Also, Eddie Jordan appeared to be there against his will - he had a face liked a slapped arse for most of it.

I fast-forwarded through the celeb chat bit, SIARPC was one of my least favourite segments of the old show and based on last week that has got even worse.

Yes, making one of the other guests you have on read out what other is doing from the telepromper was awkward in the extreme. Especially when you have no background to the other guests given at all.

And we still learned nothing about the cars in the Africa trip bar Eddies had a smaller engine and a button to raise the ride height...the old three would have been chatting about the advantages and the filming would have illustrated it - here.....nothing.

It just doesn't flow or engage. C,H & May used to be able to talk rubbish effortlessly and it was still entertaining. Evans is the weak link. His presenting style and his self importance are just too annoying, though it was nice to Sharleen taking her grandfather for a drive.

As above, enjoyed it more than last week.
CE stood out as more annoying as well.
I'm not biased towards him in any way (as a continental I hadn't heard of him), but he hasn't got a nice voice. Clarkson has a much deeper and varied voice, with better timing and intonation.

That said, camera work and production are still top notch!

It's far from the best top gear but not the worst. Last seasons of the 3 often irritated me more than last night.

In other words, Jeremy Clarkson spoke English correctly, whereas the ginger oik screeches and shouts in some awful flat regional accent....

But perhaps the BBC luvvies are biased against people who speak what was once termed 'BBC English', viewing it as divisive and prejudiced against the lower social orders.

I was only watching with half an eye but I think using him as a straight man for others to bounce off/rip the piss out of could work really well, and feed everyone's innate desire to see him mocked.

Interesting that anyone who dislikes the show or Evans is a "hater". The other thing on Ratings being gathered up from all sorts of media to give a higher number, do the old TOP GEAR also include the figures off Dave that is on all week.

CE is a blubbering idiot and is still trying his clarksonisms out.

Why was he doing the car test at the start? Is a motoring journo? No. do they have a journo who is capable of producing good car reviews? Yes.

Why do they have to make it his show.

On the plus, seems Matt is pretty handy behind the wheel. Again, why isn't he doing the power tests?

because = CE

for example
Jenson B on a Mclaren test, but CE takes 50% of the section why = because CE wants

Tbf a lot of people are handy behind the wheel. Doesn't make them good presenters though

Because he's 'the man' don't you know. I do wonder at what point in the discussion someone further up the BBC pulled rank and rejected his suggestion that the program be titled 'Chris Evans's All New Top Gear' hehe

Seriously though, my first thoughts on watching the 675 segment was that it reminded me of Richard Hammond's pieces when reviewing Lamborghinis and Paganis, and it dawned on me that Chris was copying Hammond's delivery.

Then in the Africa segment Evans tried to take on the James May role of the level-headed factual bloke. Evans is blatantly trying to take on the role of all three previous incumbents, and the rest get to be themselves or bit-part players.

You didn't see them comparing a Mini Convertible with Schumacher's debut formula one car and getting the audience to vote which was best?

I just watched this weeks show, and have to grudgingly admit it was better than last week. But then, it could hardly fail to be could it?

Mind you, I still fast forwarded through most of it. EJ is more than flesh and blood can bear.
