Mods, I don't actually like popcorn, but can we have a popcorn smiley, please!
D'oh!! banghead
EFA biggrin
In my defence, that popcorn smiley doesn't appear to be part of ph's smileys. I've just spent half an hour scrolling up and down 'em thinking I need to get new 'kin glasses! ranting

D'oh banghead is appropriate though as I didn't pick it up when replying to the post!

Anyway, back to the enquiry whistle
It's from here, a PHer created it.

Are we seeing the beginnings of the Vennels defence here? She asked her CoS what should be done, CoS asks the PR guy. CoS advises Vennels all is well.

Whether that's something constructed at the time (I get the feeling a lot of these people are adept at sending emails asking for advice so they can refer to them later - a survival mechanism in this world?), or something crystalised later, there was clearly either (a) something totally rotten in the management of the business, wherein nobody had any apparent control or oversight over anything; or (b) these are just very slimy characters well-versed in arse-covering. Or maybe both?
The issue I'm seeing is poor governance and a factor is very weak RACI (RACI stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed. Each letter in the acronym represents the level of ownership each person involved in a project will have on an individual deliverable)

Applies to complex organizations as well as projects. People need to know where they fit in the model. This group seem to hopelessly confused as to what their accountabilities were at any given point, and following the best examples of the civil service it's all been fudged and "looking back now" and "lessons should have been learned".

Weak leadership, weak management, weak governance, terrible advice, probably poor/no effective whistleblowing, too much self interest.

One might suggest that was a deliberate tactic with all the people recruited, promoted and engaged. Bully boy investigators with low morals, useful idiots as managers and lawyers all bonused on the "desired outcome" (namely keep the train rolling) and greedy firms suckling on those juicy fees.

The bigger and more bureaucratic the better - hide in plain sight to to speak. I doubt anything will land on PV - it will be "i wasn't told, it's someone else's job" and of course "i dont recall"

I suspect so - poorly governed organizations let people hide and spread the blame.

He certainly is, but it's no surprise as it was a prerequisite of getting a job there given the task to be undertaken.

But nicely skewered there smile

Didn't read them, just kept them tidy in case.

Well not in detail, anyway.

Well some but I didn't take it in.

Nasty little st! Also, I don't think rolling your eyes at council when he interrupts and pulls you up to point out you're answering a different question to the one he asked you will go down well!

Maybe he was looking up at something briefly but council did seem to pause as he looked back up from his notes to emphasise the question, and caught the slight eye roll! hehe Sir Wynn has asked him to clarify a couple of points when weasel features has tried to use a tricksy little ambiguous answer! I don't think he's enjoying his day anymore, he seems to be getting a bit 'tetchy' Long pauses at times while he thinks very carefully about his answer.

Bourke by name, Berk by nature!

I note Sir Wyn's apology today for not allowing yesterday's closing questions - I suspect he was exasperated yesterday by Davies avoiding answering or just 'bigging up' the board, and thought there wouldn't be any meaningful answers from Davies.
