Did not see that coming.
Seems to be the only soap that doesn't trail storylines in the tabloids. And the better for it.

I think I shall avoid this thread - I won't get chance to listen to the full podcast until tomorrow evening, but I clearly need to steel myself to what it to come...

She cut her arm and was infected whilst sorting out Joe's box of water-logged stuff.

Missed that - so it's another 'kick the businessman' storyline with added angst?

Shame coming so soon after she gave Emmurr a proper earfull in the Bull.

Will to go postal in five, four, three, two...

I like that on the list of symptoms:

"It feels like you are going to die".

Some people thought that when KFC was shut last week...

"You might not want to wait until tomorrow" was a killer line. Lump in me throat frown

I know it's a serious subject, but that poster about the symptoms: "It feels like you're going to die". How does one know what that feels like?

Powerful episode as the wife returned home in December after fighting sepsis for 10 days in hospital. The first 24 hours being spent in the resuscitation room.

So it was Rob Titchner's fault for causing the Ambridge flood in the first place.

Why has sepsis suddenly become a big thing? Presumably it's always been there, but for some reason, it's started getting lots of coverage.

Had this discussion with my wife last night, her opinion (tin foil hat time) is that because of antibiotic resistance, we are going to suffer from a 'sepsis' epidemic so the government are just trying to prepare us all.

This was prompted by Call The Midwife having an almost identical storyline to the archers, coincidence or are the BBC trying to send out public service messages via soaps ?

Apparently there was a play on radio 4 about it too.

150,000 cases per year of which 45,000 are fatal. Around 25 times as many as are killed on the roads.

Antibiotic resistance is making it worse.

I've just had to look up 'antibiotics' because I wasn't even sure what they are (and I'm 48). I don't think I've ever had any of those. Where do people get them from? Is it GPs, or can you self-medicate?

The things that help stop you dying after surgery, infection or a scratch.

After a scratch? Seriously? What's wrong with water? I know I'm going off topic, but do people go the the doctor because they've scratched themselves?

I know the wife of somebody on this thread had sepsis recently, and I'm not, for a moment, trying to offend or upset anyone. I'm just not at all sure how so many people get to take so many antibiotics that they cease to be effective.

It's a big topic - from doctors handing out antibiotics for apparently minor ailments, to farmers using them as a growth promoter (even the last ditch defence one has been sold openly by Asian drugs firms to pork farmers).

Invest in Georgian 'phage' treatments now, before everyone climbs aboard.
