And his next question will be “But as CEO didn’t you set the policy that was being followed?”

beer and sir wyn both so so good.
I love watching anyone skilled in their craft execute it (ok, maybe not politicians).
I hadn't realise that would extend to this context too, though.
I love the way he said 'you really need to stop laughing at the witness' to the public at the end there, by actually telling how restrained they had been and how he knows they can do even better.

I can tell you from very wide experience that it's just like you're seeing here in the NHS. They have an unshakeable belief they won't be found out. Bullies, incompetents and shysters dominate the ranks. This is a look behind the curtain.
Agreed. Most very large Govt departments and "institutions"
I have seen lots of similar stuff in the private sector over the years.
The difference in the private sector is that inefficiency and all of the other negatives are invariably exposed in the results and the business reforms or goes under. In the public sector we all pay for them to play their game.
An often repeated myth. One not remotely true of big multi-nationals.
Let's agree to differ and not derail.the thread.

Yep, loved that. Sir Wyn knows exactly what the postmasters were thinking about PV. I thought she was gonna cry again, there was a definite chin wobble at the end from PV. Wonder if she'll get a call from Angela tonight? Once she get's out from under the bus of course!

And unfortunately now this genuinely interesting enquiry will play second fiddle to the election announcement
Just as another poster so accurately predicted some pages back

Call me selfish but I would much sooner be watching Paula Vennells squirming under cross examination than Beth Rigby waving her hands and arms around like a maniac

That was me, at 15:23. What a shame for the subpostmasters who have waited years for this moment, only for the limelight to be snatched away.
I joke about some conspiracy theories and then some I consider possible.

But the timing of what is seemingly going to happen later is utterly and remarkably convenient for hiding away her pathetic performance from general scrutiny.

But who benefits from this distraction technique? Who or what is so important that the spotlight needs to be taken from her when people have been waiting for years to explain what she has been responsible for?

Something about this really doesn’t sit right.

You'd struggle because I don't think there are any.

Isn't Infosys a major partner of Fujitsu? Hasn't the Govt given some *very* juicy contracts to Fujitsu - in fact, it is reported, £3.8bn in contracts in the last year, vs £1.3bn in the whole of the 3 prior years. But I don't want to fan the flames of conspiracy theories.

The Govt is in a bind. The blood scandal, the Post Office scandal, serious questions around the PM's family finances, the state of the economy, the ongoing high interest rates, record numbers of immigrants. It may be they simply think it will only get worse from here on in!

Would be nice if something that came out of this was that Commons Select Committees have to approve senior appointments to publicly funded roles.

The could ask candidates the really difficult questions like “What did you have for breakfast?” to test their memories.

With inflation down to 2%, and knowing that the Post Office Scandal had running on through both Labour and Conservative governments, I had to look up the blood scandal but that was from the '70s so I think both Labout and Tories are culpable for the bind we're in.

So will I, but the SPMs deserved to have had their moment with the chairperson going through the enquiry ringer (hopefully prior to court - Corp manslaughter, wrongful imprisonment, purjury and more should be on the list).

That line of questioning was superb, but even when cornered so expertly she couldn't admit the truth.

I don't meant the Govt caused those things. I mean that, right now, the current Govt (as keepers of the flame) are in the firing line for having failed to do anything about these issues across so many years, instead (it seems) preferring to get going only in time for an election.

Cameron and his successors have had 14 years to sort the blood scandal out, as well as to resolve this Post Office issue. What have they actually been doing? Waiting for a majority?

Indeed, it's a complete shambles...
