It's looking good, but you have to be a quick reader to keep up with it at times. It's well acted too, although it should have had a few more Paul Calf style mullets for extra East German realism. wink
It's set in the 80s not 2000s wink

To be fair Austrian/Bavarian German and Swiss German can be really accented, Berlin German is much closer to 'hochdeutsch' and much easier to understand than the others, but I still suspect his claim to be from one place when he's from somewhere else would be picked up (like saying you're from Liverpool but having a Leeds accent - Maybe everyone wouldn't pick it up, but someone would...).

Seemed to get even more far fetched last night sadly - The Chinese assassin and the stealing the disk was pure James Bond Mission Impossible 2!!!

I too thought the story was pretty weak last night.

Who the hell would 'secure' government security documents in a hotel room safe?

The West German General's reaction to the theft of the floppy disc and the attempted murder of his staff member. "Let's all go downstairs and have another drink."

Certainly looked like it. Bore more than a passing resemblance to that there Eddie Redmayne in his new cross dressing film Danish Girl.

Surely if you were going to plant a spy you'd have the most normal looking person ever?

Not a 6ft high cheek boned possibly transgender type, not some super fit person just a ordinary looking person.

Everyone looked like that in East Germany in the '80s - Look up East German Athletes biggrin

I meant to mention her too. She's not only conspicuous looking, but that incident with the gun in the room doorway! What if someone came down the hall? And then lobbing bits of paper at him when they were the only two in the restaurant and then the talking out of the side of their mouths bit at lunch and how did the Professor bloke suddenly appear at a hotel secured for a NATO conference... It's stylish, but it doesn't stand much scrutiny...

Still no sign of a Wartburg moan

DDR bird going swimming was a high point.

Series shaping up nicely though.

Just caught up on this, very touching that it finished with Bowie given it was aired last night.

Also disappointed by Sunday's episode.

Their reaction to doing nothing but getting a drink after some major documents went missing just really wound me up.

Unless there suspicious and want to give him a bit more rope to find the others.

No comments on tonight?

I am finding it a bit tough to follow at times - where did this Thomas come from? Is he banging our hero's mother as well as his girlfriend? And what was the book filled room all about?

Contraband Western books he had seized as a border guard and brought home to give to his mother I think.

Girlfriend then reports her to the Stasi (either because of the aunt's throwaway manipulation remark that the mother was susceptible to "the other side" or because she's already one of their many unofficial informants), which causes all sorts of bureaucratic havoc that threatens to derail the mission in the West?

I'm loving it.

I've just watched episode 5 on my Fire TV stick.

The fact that it's subtitled doesn't bother me at all.

If you are enjoying it then I strongly recommend watching the movie 'The Lives of Others'. An absolutely terrific film about the Stasi in 80's East Germany. It was released in 2006 but isn't too well know as its a German language film.

Brilliant so far-Plenty of Oldtimers in the background too. I did notice in episode 3 they left Germany in a W123, and arrived in Belgium in a W116 S-Class though...

Goodbye lenin! is another film from the time, but quite lighthearted
