Huge laugh from us this evening when Susie, the leather restorer, introduced her ancient Singer sewing machine, "This is Pearl..."
That's a great line.

That would be a better name for a knitting machine surely?

Ah, got you now buddy.

I stopped listening to pop (so-called) music aeons ago so stuff like that tends to get lost on me.

Since 1977?
(also an, allegedly, amusing amusing cover by Richard Digance "Earls a Winger", q.v.)

The leather lady and the clock guy are brother and sister .
As in many skilled things they all make it look easy.
Do we get automatic membership to the old codgers/ man shed club when we are enthralled by watching old skill at work ?

Like watching the leather work and would love to give it a go, also like watching the working with clocks and no chance would give that a go!

I invented a Repair Shop drinking game in the summer. Shot every time anyone says Thanks or Thank You. You need to be handy with the pause button for refilling the glasses. One programme can take an hour and a half and you're guaranteed to be leathered at the end. Much hilarity.

This program is so enjoyable, how they bring back to life scruffy stuff that their parents, grandparents used decades ago.

If I have a criticism of this programme, it's that they spend a bit too much time on the setup beforehand and the reaction afterwards. I would like to see more of the actual work.

Great relaxing TV! The organ repairer has a fiddly job.

If you like this, look out for "Secrets of the museum" on bbc2/iplayer. Similar premise but with artefacts from the Victoria and Albert museum. Some of the work they do is insane.

Isn't that the way of all modern TV.

its just missing 'coming up we will look at....' and 'before the break we....'

padding that this show really doesn't need, plenty of actual work just to watch.

Just needs more vintage electronics.

It's one of the few 'must watch' series on any channel for us, the skill and attention to detail of all the craftsmen and women is thoroughly absorbing.

It isn't supposed to be a 'how to do it' programme (anyone remember Barry Bucknall?) and I like seeing how much the repaired objects mean to the people who have taken them in.

As a big fan I’m just hoping the Beeb don’t ruin it like a lot of their programmes now it’s going more mainstream - Gets sold off to another channel, or think they need to replace Jay with Fern Cotton or some other ‘celeb’ presenter.

Anyone watching the current series? Utterly bewildering the skills on show, if I have one criticism it’s that I’d prefer to see more of the work rather than little snippets of other experts working on stuff that’s not being featured.

Tonight’s show was something else though with the restoration of the teddy bear. Apparently the lady who brought it in said it had belonged to her step father who she lost to cancer three weeks earlier. Having lost my mum late last year to the same disease it was very emotional and raw watching the reveal.

Anyways, for me, one of the best things on TV right now.

My favourite program on TV every Wed. They look like they really love what they do and super skilled whilst they do it. Really jealous if I’m honest!
